Exclamation Blu-Ray Drive Hits the Shelves

Hello everyone,
I live near Washington DC and was looking thorugh a catalog of CompUSA and i stumbled upon a Sony Internal Blu-Ray Disc Rewritable Drive. Guess what the price was... $749.99 USD. Not sure if its worth it considering the PS3 uses Blue ray and is planning on selling for much less than that. Oh well, just thought id get it out there eh better start saving!! =-@

The CompUSA I went to yesterday had dummy (empty) boxes of those with a note directing you to talk to a Customer Service Representative.

Newegg has that drive for $699 with free shipping. But I would advise against buying it -- it can't write to dual layer media. There is a Panasonic for $715 or so that can. Browse through the forum.

Sony Style seems to think it does.

Record up to 50GB data or 4 hours of 1080 HD video to a single BD disc.
What makes you think it does not? The Pioneer is the only drive that I know of that is limited to SL.

Thanks for the correction. I saw some specs elsewhere that left out the dual layer capability, so I assumed it did not have it. My mistake!
