Germany Winterkrieg - Talvisota Special Edition/ Director's Cut

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Talvi...lu-ray/141293/

Blu-ray.com has stated this blu to be region free, and the back side of the cover has the ABC logo on it. However, my region A PS3 does not play it. After loading the disc, a pop up window immediately says in German that the disc can only be played on region B players.

As others did not seem to have this problem - does anyone know how to solve the issue?

This release seems to have messed up black levels. I do not know if it is an IRE issue or if Pandastorm wanted to boost certain scenes they considered too dark. Nevertheless, Tommi Partanen of KAVI confirmed that German disc does not look like it is supposed to. Pandastorm altered the "mov prores" master they got from Finland. KAVI is the Finnish National Audiovisual Institute responsible for the 4k restoration. More precise comments were: "For some reason image is much brighter than it should. For example scenes taking place in dugouts are supposed to be dark. You are not supposed to clearly see people on background. Cinematographer wanted dugout scenes to look naturally illuminated."

Finnish 4k restored Blu-ray (197 min) will be released on March by VLMedia and will have some new extras. KAVI confirmed that Blu-ray will include English and Swedish subtitles. For some reason links below do not confirm subtitles other than Finnish.
http://www.discshop.fi/elokuvat/blur...lu_ray/P107705
http://vlmediashop.fi/tuote/talvisot.../6416415975378

Extras:
- A word from the author Antti Tuuri
- Filming of Talvisota in Keuruu
- Props and military equipment
- The Winter War facts
- Civil defence in Helsinki in autumn 1939
- Archival footage from days after the Winter War

Lots of technical information about the restoration but only in Finnish here: http://www.elonet.fi/fi/elokuvat/kav...ional-filmi-oy

I'm waiting for the Finnish Blu-ray but I'm still little bit annoyed that the longest 265 min TV cut or mini-series was not restored. It is superior to 197 min Finnish theatrical cut.

Interesting facts - thanks, hansolo!

Unfortunately it doesn't help me with my area code problem...

BDinfo of German BD claims "Extras: 50 Hz content". Could that be the issue? US PS3 is not PAL compatible. Probably not if the disc generates "Wrong region message".

Should not be an issue - the extras might not work, but the movie usually plays. Another member here was apparently able to play it on a region A player and the back cover clearly states ABC region.

I don't suppose any of the German or Finnish BD extras have English subs?
