Default What is the deal with a 4k projector screen?

I am in the projector camp and in a few years when the prices and tech and 4k options get better I will be hopefully getting a 4k projector upgrade from my 1080p setup. I keep seeing here and there some manufacturers marketing 4k projector screens. Is this just snake oil? Will I really need to buy a whole new screen as well to correctly view a 4k projection? Will my current screen somehow be detrimental to the image? This is real perplexing to me. Can anyone chime in here please? Thanks.

It's just a marketing term.

I highly doubt you'll need a new screen as long as your current screen is clean & clear. This hobby or passion or whatever you call it is just like any other. Whenever there is a new tech adding a "catch phrase" like "4k ready" or "4k optomized" it'll be used very freely by those trying to sell something.
There are always those with more money than sense who will upgrade like clockwork just because of things like that.
I personally am still blown away by my 1080p picture & if I replace my Carada screen it'll be to go with a acoustically transparent screen & for that reason alone.
Don't get me wrong 4k intrigues me but I'll wait until it doesn't cost me so much or until my current setup fails for some reason which I doubt will happen.

This site has a great explanation why you should get a 4k projector screen. https://www.projectorscreen.com/blog...aces-Explained

I decided to get a 4K screen after reading about the surface differences.
