Default Male vs Female

Who plays games more, Men or woman or guys or girls, depending on what you ask? Is there a reason why women don't play as much as men do? I have never read any article where both sexes were equal. What are your thoughts?

You're going to get a skew towards male no matter what you do, particularly on a site like this one frequented by very few women.

I can only speak for myself. I don't play video games. The only video game I like is Mario Bros on Nintendo 64.

But I know many other SG's that are big time gamers.

Guys: All about the visual and playing console games

Women: All about the emotional and playing head games with the guys, we're just avatars in the game of life.

I have tried really hard to get my GF into games, but it just doesn't work. She likes some of the old-school games, like Centipede, Pac-Man, or the original Super Mario Bros, but the games nowadays she doesn't like "because all they are is shooting and slashing". She does have a point.

That's how I feel, everytime I see a game now the fate of the world is in my hands. Forget it I rather be collecting gold coins and stepping on mushrooms.

I loved Mario Bros old school Zelda, Tetris, Ms Pac Man and of course Q*Bert.

My GF wants a Wii for Xmas so she can play Mario games. On PS she plays Spyro and cart racing games. For her it's about playing a simple, straightforward, fun game. I think there's something to be said about playing games that are just flat-out fun to play. She just rolls her eyes at me when I get giddy with carnage-fueled excitement playing God of War or Resistance. She LOVES Blu-ray, though, so in my book she's a keeper!

Gamers are mostly males 15-35 but the number of female gamers is picking up and don't think for a second they can't whoop your (you know). Frag dolls anyone? Personally I think it's great that the ladies are starting to get into this more as it will make it easier on us guys if we can game with our souse/girl friend rather then get yelled at to get off the TV

IN our house my wife is easily the bigger gamer, but she doesn't like FPS games at all. I'm not really all that enamoured with them either...

Default I prefer the old school fun games

I am a guy, but I also just prefer the old school "fun" games. Never have been able to get into the FPS's. For me, Crash Bandicoot 2 is still my favorite.

Men and women are very different. They have different goals in life, enjoy different things, have different vices, and different views on things. Neither is better than the other, just different.

I am totally addicted to Warhawk right now on the PS3. I showed my GF and she sometimes watches me play (boring to watch someone else play video games I can't imagine watching and not wanting to play). I beg her to play but she isn't interested. When I ask why she explains that it is all the fighting and shooting and killing. Then I reply, "It isn't like I am killing people for real" and she just shrugs her shoulders.

As a 35 year old man I can honestly say that I will never, ever understand women, and I am sure most women will never understand men.

There are always exceptions to the stereotype, don't get me wrong. So guys out there, if you are dating a girl who is into video games, sports, or slapstick comedy, after reading this e-mail shut down your computer and go out and buy her a ring. Trust me... women like that are not easy to find, and worth their weight in gold!

Hi yall! After lurking around this site for months, I've decided to join and chime in on this thread.

I guess I'm just not like the norm because I love to play video games. I must admit, my favorites are still the old school 'fun' games like Mario and Sonic (I have a Wii for those games), but I love to play shoot 'em up games on our PS3. My husband bought our PS3 when it first came out, and I'll be honest...I don't know which one of us was more excited about getting it! I really like co-op split screen shooter modes like on Resistance and Rainbow Six because that way we don't have to fight over who gets to hog the TV. Racing games rock too...can't wait for GT5! I guess I like games where we can play at the same time. I wish more of the good shooter games had split-screen coop modes and not just online multiplayer modes.

Anyhoo, there's my two cents for what it's worth. There are some women out there who like shooting-killing-blood and guts games...I think maybe we're just few and far between

PS - Sorry if this posts twice...my computer is acting weird.

Both my fiancee and my best friend's wife are big into the Guitar Hero games, and now really love Rock Band. And the four us used to play Mario Party games all the time. My fiancee played a little bit of Heavenly Sword, and seemed to like it, but just never cared to really go back to it. She's looking forward to HOME and I think she'll get a kick out of Little Big Planet.

Oh forgot to mention Guitar Hero...love that one too, even though my husband is so much better at it than I am! It's fun to play co-op mode and see how good of a score we can get. Gotta love the PS3 and the bonding experiences it brings! haha

Same with my wife. We still have a NES and about 40 games, I gotta hook it up every so often, but it takes about half an hour to get a game to work... aaarrrgh! blowing on the cartridges, wiggling them in the slot, using rubbing alcohol and other tricks will do it eventually! She loves all the old school 2D Jump N Run games.
I got her a Wii this year with Paper Mario and wanted her to choose some other games she'd like, but the first thing she did is go online and download Mario Bros 1-3 and Yoshi games!!! I borrowed Super Mario Galaxy off a coworker and she liked it a lot, so end up getting that one. Other than that she likes Guitar Hero on the PS3, but that's about it.
Off course I get the occasional head shake when playing Resistance or any other type of shooter when I am yelling around "come get some!" hahaha
