Default Weinstein blocks Senator's HD releases in Germany

I don't know if this means Weinstein may actually release something on an HD format again, or if they don't want any HD release at all.

Looks like the HDDVD/Blu-ray releases of 1408, Death Proof and Planet Terror won't be released anytime soon in Germany. Shame, was looking forward to importing Grindhouse.

*Note- I haven't seen any press releases in German. Maybe someone can find one or clear this up?

Maybe, just maybe, one day any of those AVS guys will understand what region coding is for studios. They haven't figured it out yet from New Line's release schedule...

I think 1408 was scheduled for a Blu release somewhere, has that been canned?

Damn, I just watched Planet Terror tonight thanks to Netflix and I remembered about a possible German BD and then I see this thread.

I hope Weinstein gets its act together and releases Grindhouse here in the States on BD. Loved PT!

Because if they ever start to release again, their profits will be eaten up because of people importing these discs.

this doesn't mean a thing if Wienstien goes blu they may in want to block all HD-DVD versions of thier films as a film release in say Germany, would work just as well in the US... then again, it could mean they want to release it on HD-DVD the US first...

however something to think about, if they wanted to release it in the US first wouldn't they have released it on day and date with the DVD release?

I really dont understand why everyone cares so much about Weinstein.

THEY ARE NOTHING. THEY HAVE NOTHING. THEY ARE NOT A PLAYER.

It drives me insane that everyone gets into a tizzy over them.

Dude, my unending love for Grindhouse and my near desparate need for The Whole Bloody Affair (not to mention my soon to be love of Sin City 2) means I DO CARE ABOUT WEINSTEIN!

I don't care if they're a major player...I care that they have movies I want!

They have 1408 and they have The Mist. I had to buy 1408 on dvd, hopefully won't have to do the same with The Mist.

They don't exactly have tons of big blockbusters, but if anyone wants even one of their movies, it's good to have it available on Blu-ray. Just because *you* can't understand that...

they have some films that people like get over it , sure they are'nt a huge company but if they went to blu ray its one more studio thats supporting a ever growing format.

i would buy 1408, Death Proof and Planet Terror and halloween if they came to bluray.

Weinstein has a long history of screwing with foreign versions of films they own

Drunken Master 2 (aka Legend of Drunken Master) is only available in the "happy" version the US cut, and the english subs that were on every previous release were stripped from the HK release
