Default Zulawski's "Polish Trilogy" coming from Mondo (Third Part / Devil / Silver Globe)

http://www.mondo-vision.com/films.php

Sounds good

Synopsis:

On the Silver Globe

Quote:
"One of cinema's most stunning extravagances and the most frightening art film you will ever see" says Film Comment's Michael Atkinson about this banned science fiction epic by controversial director Andrej Zulawski. The Polish Ministry of Culture halted production on The Silver Globe in 1978 and until the fall of communism in 1986 when Zulawski completed the film it remained both his best-known and least-seen work. In this surreal and disturbing mix of Lord of the Flies and Dune a group of space pioneers starts a colony on the moon. As the adults die off the children revert to primitive forms creating their own myths deities and social classes. Years later a politician from earth arrives and--fulfilling the moon people's prophecy--is hailed as their great messiah.
Diabel (The Devil)

Quote:
A political allegory wrapped in the guise of a gory horror film, Andrzej Zulawski s THE DEVIL did not escape the wrath of communist censorship. The film was banned in Poland for 15 years, before getting a sporadic release in 1987
Jakub (Leszek Teleszynski), a young 18th century nobleman, rots in prison for conspiring against the king. A mysterious stranger frees him, but in exchange he demands a list of Jakub's fellow conspirators. Jakub follows the stranger on a journey across a nightmarish, snowbound countryside where they witness countless acts of brutal violence. Affected by the overall chaos and moral corruption, the young nobleman descends into madness.
THE DEVIL is a lost treasure of Eastern European cinema and a unique addition to the horror genre.
The Third Part Of The Night

Quote:
Polish director Andrzej Zulawski's award-winning debut feature is set in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. A young man, Michal (Leszek Teleszynski), escapes the massacre of his family, and his subsequent guilt and experiences are shown through multi-layered symbolism and apocalyptic imagery.

So they're going to put all of those in one box set?

Phew, that's going to cost a fortune once it comes out (especially the obligatory Limited Edition), but it'll be worth every single penny.

Any chance Second Sight gets these? Importing from UK would be cheaper.

I do love me some Mondo Vision. This'll be release of the year worthy for whatever year they can get it out. But oh boy am I ready.

MondoVision has all three of these films in the works for ages. Curious why they seem to have now decided to bundle them into a trilogy set.
Also wondering why it's been assumed this will be a BD edition.

It doesn't say anything about this set being on blu-ray. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. Not interested in paying $200 just to get the soundtracks either...

Affordability > Fancy cardboard boxes.

Someone posted a while back that all three of these have recent HD restorations but their post might have been deleted after they were suspended...

Well, MV doesn't rush anything, so we could still be talking about this early next year.

With Zulawski having passed recently, I hope these releases turn out alright.

I just checked out Possession. It was my first exposure to Zulawski's stuff. WOW.

Anyone trying to unload the Limited Edition? I think I need this.

Although I had only heard of On the Silver Globe before I am quite excited for this set; Possession is a towering, completely pulverizing film, a favorite of mine, and this trilogy seems equally deranged and horror-oriented, yet I wonder if that 1981 film can be matched in terms of overall quality; has anyone actually seen any of these three?

I've seen all of his films. All amazing, though to different degrees.

Possession is my favorite, by far.

The Devil is my second favorite. I haven't seen this recent horror film The Witch, but it seems there might be some superficial similarities... I can't imagine it or any other modern horror film remotely comparing to the nightmarish, layered complexity of The Devil, though.

On the Silver Globe reminded me most of Jodorowsky, or the more recent Hard To Be A God. The version I saw may have been incomplete, but was still utterly compelling.

I like all his others, too, but these three are my favorites.

Would MV seriously not release this trilogy on Blu-Ray in 2016 ? That just seems too crazy to me!

If the masters aren't ready, then no, they would seriously not release them in 2016.

Ok, this was in response to someone above who suggested that the releases may not be released on Blu-Ray, but rather DVD. I was questioning whether that was really a possibility from this company or not - regardless if it is released this year or three years from now - Though I'm really hoping for this year - it would seem a huge missed opportunity not to capitalize on the release of Zulawski's final film Cosmos - though I'm sure restoring 3 films is an unimaginable amount of work that I know nothing about. I emailed MV asking if the releases would be Blu Ray and they didn't bother responding.

Possession didn't eve get a DVD release from them, did it?

I'm very curious about On the Silver Globe, since that's the other Zulawski that seems to get the most press, but that may just be due to censorship/legend.
