"Dual-format supporters may want to pick up the HD DVD edition for its bonus IME track, but even without it, this remains a strong release that's sure to please fans." |

Unfortunately IME is a pretty big advantage for HD-DVD until the beginning of 2008 when profile 1.1 movies start being released.
I don't think it's a biased comment at all. HD-DVD has an advantage on some releases that go to both formats. Unlike Order of the Phoenix, the extras were not put on the disc as HD content on the first four potter movies. That being said, I'd still never buy the HD-DVD version... |

Come on now, the HD DVD version only got a 1/2 star more in their overall score compared to the Blu-ray version. If that's because of IME then so be it. The Blu version still has a 4 star overall rating with 4 1/2 video and 4 1/2 audio. There's no true colors being shown here.

I don't really get the hate Highdefdigest is receiving.
As reviewers they have to be as objective as they can, so if one format has one extra feature the other is lacking then you have to mention this. It's another question IF this feature is "that much" better to make the overall recommendation because of this. Reviews surely are subjective opinions, but have to be made from an objective point. Highdefdigest is doing that most of the time and even if most of us might wonder about some ratings from Mr. Bracke you can read from the context that it's often personal taste his rating is based on. Don't take only one review as the ultimate truth, it's an opinion, nothing else. Read more reviews, compare and most important: rent/buy the disc and see for yourself. ![]() |

Reviews really do include a lot of personal preference, a recent example is reviews of Time Crisis 4 that I was looking at...it got a good review on IGN (above an 8 if I remember correctly) and I was reading through Game Informer the other day and it got around a 4.5.
I haven't found Highdefdigest to be bias, I am occasionally confused by a couple reviews...but...if I look into it a little more, my issue is usually based with personal preference. Adding half a star overall for a decent feature like IME does not bother me, he's just being honest. |

YOu would think that the massive difference in available audio tracks would warrant an extra half star on the "features" though.
Having said tha, I don't think this review is as biased as the Order of he Phoenix review, which completely ignores the difference in high def content in favour of one SD IME track - brutal omission by Bracke. |

In the past I hadn't considered Brown to be as bad as Bracke, but to describe the PQ in Phoenix (as he does here for comparative purposes) as "jaw-dropping" is incomprehensible.

I've been confused by a couple of the reviews at HDD, one that comes to mind was Meet the Robinsons, which IMO should have been 5 stars PQ. At the time it was some of the best HD i'd seen but since then we've had Cars and Ratatouille. It was an AVC encode with about a 35 constant bitrate and absolutely flawless PQ.
Anyway, i'm not entirely convinced this paticular review is biased. Although I do wonder why, if he's given extra points to the HD-DVD version for IME, why he hasn't been giving the HP Blu-rays an extra point for audio considering they all have PCM. |

The HD-DVD versions have TrueHD I believe, and (possible dialogue normalization issues aside) a TrueHD or DTS-HDMA track should *in theory* be identical to uncompressed PCM. The BDs have a wealth of foreign language tracks in their favor, though.

Yeah, I don't know why they wouldn't say that IME does give a certain advantage to the other release. Fair is fair.
What's not fair, though, is that they haven't mentioned that the Profile 1.1 update for PS3 has gone live today -- okay, perhaps not in the whole world, but it's getting there. That's certainly the biggest news of the week, if not month. BTW, DVD Times just posted the entire list of Universal HD DVD releases for the month of March. To say that it's laughable is putting it mildly -- just Fletch (FLETCH! Of all things!), and two non-combo reissues. Certainly doesn't sound as if Uni is throwing its weight behind that format anymore. ![]() |

$150 million is the going rate for those that issue a few discs a month. I wonder what Universal will want? Gary |
