Australia Star Trek (2009) & Star Trek Into Darkness UltraHD/Blu-ray Combo - Sept 1st, 2016

After speaking to Universal Sony yesterday about a local release of these newly announced releases, they have confirmed they will be released here on July 7.

So anyone who wants the extras-packed release of Into Darkness, like me, who didn't want to order the Compendium version from America can now get them.

Looks like they won't be including the bonus discs in either, which is disappointing.

When someone picks up the Into Darkness release, please check if the aliasing is still present in the memorial scene at the end.

1:51 minute. It's not present on the YouTube video, but when I watched it the other week, the curve of that building was aliasing as hell. (US BD). But... it could be my player or tv.. I dunno.

That is a shame, typical, but still a shame. Pick up this next time it goes on special and chuck it in with it;

It came down to $US11 a few weeks ago.. should do it again.

So we miss out on the Compendium set with all the extras for Into Darkness and now thinking they'd be on this new release just to find out yet again we don't get them.

What I find weird is for the first time we don't get the extras featured on the main standard release from America.

I presume this way they save on a BD outside North America. So instead of UHD BD + BD + BD extras we lose that 3rd disk. It may be they don't want to bother subtitling the extras for other European languages to save money but that's no reason not to include the missing disk in Australia, NZ and UK.

I contacted Universal Sony about it so we'll see what they have to say on the matter.

Looks like I'll be getting this version, with all the extras, from America.

Only the UHD disc is, the Blu-ray in the local set isn't the IMAX version.

Got a response from Universal Sony today about the bonus features:

"Hi Adam,

Thanks for your email & our sincere apologies if you have been misled however given we are a separate territory to the US our release strategies do differ from time to time (and unfortunately we cannot control what you read in the international press) however you will find the contents of our product is consistent with the communication on the packaging.

The release strategy in Australia is “feature film” only on 4K UHD + BD + Digital, and have therefore chosen not re-releasing bonus disc content, which is readily available on the existing Blu-ray skus.

Again our sincere apologies,

Regards

Kerrie Stephens
