Default Hot Rod (the movie)

So while at the local Rogers Video to rent The Bourne Ultimatum on DVD I also spotted Hot Rod. I'd heard bad things about it so I never saw it in theatres and held off renting it. I decided to rent it though as I need to watch a funny movie..

I wasn't expecting much based on the opinion and reviews I'd read... but after watching it, I thought it was awesome!

Anyone else feel the same?

It was a relief when it was finally over. Andy Samberg is a funny guy, but he needs to dump Lorne Michaels and especially Seth Myers and go make some real feature films, instead of just 90 minutes of something that tastes too much like "Laser Cats".

"I'm gonna get you better so I can BEAT YOU TO DEATH!".... come on now, that's a classic line. And Ian McShane is a fantastic actor.

Admittedly this movie had parts that had me laughing out loud; it was just too much like a series of skits and half-funny SNL like bits. It simply did not live up to the potential it had. Some comparison has been made to Napoleon Dynamite, but I think there is no comparison. Napoleon was novel, cohesive, and originally funny. I do think Samberg has the talent to tackle the "stupid-funny" genre (Farrellesque). He needs to leave SNL and study the examples of those who preceded him who were successful, rather than those he will leave behind (Farrell, Murray, the dead fat guy (Uncle Buck)). He should ignore those like Adam Sandler.

His digital shorts on snl are pretty good. 'Junk' in a box, and Chronicles of Narnia were hilarious. He's got potential. He just needs someone to help him use his talents for mass appeal.

And the 'dead fat guy' has a name. Its Chris Farley. One of the greatest comedians of all time.

It's worth a rental IMO. A few laughs here and there. I don't care to own it though.

No offense was intended. I could not think of the name at the time, and someone had just walked into the office, so I had no time to look it up. Anyway, it was John Candy.

Really stupid movie.. and I mean that in a good way. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

It's by no means one of the greatest comedies of all time but it made me laugh out loud several times and thats saying a lot more than most comedies that are out today.

I agree that Samberg is already really funny one of those guys thats gonna get better with time. "oh thanks man! this is number one!" lol!

Cool

Yeah I totally laughed the hardest at Hot Rod over the other comedies this year. I think Andy Samberg is a really funny guy.

Cool Beans?
