Just wondering how many Blu-ray in your collection if any have become unplayable and no longer work?
In the early days of DVD it was common for rot or other factors to cause them to become unplayabel and not work. Not sure if the same for blu-ray but there are still reported cases of blu-ray that no longer play in peoples collections. In my collection I only had 1. Elton John - 60 Live At Madison Square Garden (AU) stop working and become unplayable. Looks in good condition. ![]() Last edited by g12345567; 04-28-2016 at 01:48 AM. |

Bought my copy from a reseller on Amazon France late last year. Worked perfect when I got it, however when I tried it again only a couple of weeks ago it was stuffed. Tried contacting the reseller but they just ignored me.
Ended up ordering a copy of the Single Disc edition as my disc 2 still works fine. |

Only American Psycho that I'm aware of. I used ot think it was the player because the first time it didn't worked many disc were doing the same but I now have two players and this the only one none would play.

Scrap this one off the 'list'. I bought a used copy the other day for $4, and it plays on all three of my players now. Score! I guess maybe my one is damaged, or got some kind of Blu-Ray Rot.

Blu-Rays can rot I knew CD and DVD could, but was unaware Blu-Ray can, any way to combat this as a collector with a big Blu-Ray collection?

I'm afraid not. There is a thread on this topic on the US page but I can't find it. If anybody else can find the thread could you post a link on this thread.

Never had this happen, at least not permanantly. I've had some instances of discs failing to load then rebooted the player or ran my laser-cleaning disc and then they played fine. Even my old Lionsgate copy of Devil's Rejects has zero issues.

LG frequently spat out my Blu-rays, citing "Read/Disc error", but they would always play perfectly on my computer. Reinserting the disc often did the trick, but after several attempts, it was no longer worth the bloody trouble. The player has never had a problem with DVDs though. I have since upgraded to a Sony UHD player and have had no problems whatsoever. My family flew out a few weeks ago, so I finally have the chance to burn through my bottomless backlog.
I haven't had any other problems except with The Water Diviner, which I bought on release day. None of my players would take it, nor would our desktop or my laptop computers play it. I was able to see the files, but no software would play it. Baffling. I swapped it for another copy, but the same issue occurred (and I refused to settle for DVD). I couldnn't find any evidence online of anybody else encountering this issue with the Blu-ray release. Funnily enough, Seven screened it just a week or two later. None of my pressed DVDs/Blus/CDs from over the years have had problems, at least none that I recall. I have a very badly scratched CD single from 21 years ago that still worked (I used it as a hand mirror in my early high school years, hence all the scratches). But I have had a few burned discs from about 15 years ago become unreadable. I threw one out a week or two ago and witnessed "disc rot" for myself. Fortunately, the contents of the disc were quite embarrassing anyway, so I didn't mind seeing the back of it. ![]() I had been in the process of backing up all of my CDs, and perhaps I ought to start doing that with my DVDs sooner or later.
