Seems like Shout Factory is following in the footsteps of Criterion and Code Red in numbering spines in a new series of Blu-Rays known as the Shout Select series. The first three titles to be announced were: Buckaroo Banzai, John Carpenter's Elvis, and Midnight Run. Other Shout Select titles will include the Bill and Ted duology and Road House.

Well, the spine numbering won't force me to "collect them all" as I already don't want Midnight Run or the Bill and Teds.

Every part of me was expecting Bogus Journey to get a solo Scream release. The horror elements in that movie would have made it qualify.

Bill and Ted are rock legends that will unite the planets and bring peace to the Galaxy. All war will end because of the music of Wild Stallions.

The numbering doesn't make me want the Criterion movies more and it doesn't work in this case either. If anything, this is a bit irksome as I would prefer some of these titles sitting next to other Shout! titles I already own without random numbers every other spine, but whatever.

I like the titles announced, but I don't understand this Shout Select nonsense. Will they be loaded blu-rays with amazing transfers and new cases (like the Arrow/Criterion cases)? Are they going to be limited and only released on their website? I don't get what makes these special.

Shout Select?

Are these going to be wide release titles available everywhere? Because IIRC, Shout Select was the name of their Warner Archive-like program where they finished off a bunch of TV series that didn't make it at the retail level by selling them exclusively through their website.

It's been like 20 years since I seen the movies.
Looking forward to revisiting them on Blu-ray Disc.

Me thinks...

Shout - Their own titles along with movie-only/trailer-only/archival extras only from licensed titles

Shout Select - Licensed titles with new extra(s) on top of archival extras

Scream - Horror or thriller genre titles with archical extras/new extras/trailer-only/movie-only

One thing for certain is since these first 3 titles are from Fox, Universal and I'm not sure what label owns Elvis since it was made to TV, this 'select' line of titles that are coming and will be should cover lots of great guilty pleasure releases that the main studios would not release. Just to have them in high-def is good enough for me. Let the speculation begin on the vast variety of catalog title they have snagged!

They should number their slipcovers. People would blow a ton of money starting new collections. You know they would.

I love what Shout does, and I'm liking the first choices they've made so far. I'm in.

Well I'm glad I'm not a hardcore completist otherwise I'd have to buy every single release they put out so that there wouldn't be any numbers missing. That's what I think.

Don't like the size and placement of the "Shout Select" label on those covers.

Neither do I. They remind me of Australian ratings logos plastered on the front of Blu-ray covers. At least Shout's logo isn't huge. BTW, Midnight Run wasn't announced as a Shout Select title - it became one. Just clarifying something in the OP
