Star Trek Beyond 4K + 3D Gift Set Blu-ray

This should be a native 4K title. A 4K trailer is released for theaters. And from my experience those were all 4K DI titles once released.

I haven't found any info for the 4K trailer. Deluxe is only showing info for 2K trailers. I hope it is 4K!

My bad. It was Star Wars: Roque One, that had a 4K trailer.

According to realorfake4k it has, as many movies do, 2K intermediate. Apparently most studios still do effects in 2K.

I laugh at people who think they are seeing 4K movies in theaters today, and say IMAX is inferior, while many are equipped with 4K projectors only a few are shown in 4K, most theater downloads are actually 2K, while IMAX uses 2 better 2K projectors for all 2D or 3D films...plus they are beginning to upgrade to 4K laser projectors. 8K may be beginning to be used at the camera end of things, but only to have 4K intermediates and 4K masters. 8K probably won't be a thing for many years...HDR and better color (WCG) make more improvement to near film and eventually surpass film quality.

Yet unfortunately even for IMAX-laser 3D features are still bound to 2K limitations

Oh and that deluxe Amazon edition - preordered!!

Gift set looks tempting but not at that price. Maybe if it drops around the holidays time, I'm gonna be waiting out the UHD anyway unless there's an exclusive too good to refuse.

Screw it ...ask for an Amazon card for the holidays and apply that puppy towards it ...that's what I plan on doing

Well I do have a $50 one from the Xbox One I bought on Prime Day... but I was planning to just save that for Madden in a few weeks

EDIT: just realized this has the 3D in it, for some reason I assumed that third disc was a DVD. Might go for this after all.

Available for pre-order at Walmart Canada. It says it ships January 1st 2017, but maybe that is just a temporary date set while the actual street date is getting confirmed. For some reason the links to Walmart URL doesn't work if I post them here.

Hmmm... Going by the usual trend of 5 months, I would say that this movie will come out in late December/Early January, so this release date is totally acceptable.

Into Darkness came out in May and was Released on Blu-Ray in October.
Beyond came out in July, so it would be believable if the Blu-Ray came out in December.

If I were Paramount, I would release this at least a couple of weeks before Christmas, as it could generate higher sales in that period (especially gifts), as opposed to releasing it Post-Christmas where everybody will be on the money-saving mentality.

Anyways, pre-ordered the gift set as I fear that the price will go up!

It's so weird... I got the 3D BD + phaser set from Amazon for Into Darkness last year and I had to get the 2D version of the movie because I loved the clear-plastic cover that went over it.

If the 3D cover is this poster and is lenticular, I might have to order a separate 3D BD copy, or at least a slipcover. Hoping that the 2D is meh so that I wouldn't get it.

The movie was simply AWESOME! imax 3d today. Loved it. Still holding on a decent price for a 4k release though.
