Hrm. That documentary that's on the DVD is already really good. If they include that hopefully they convert it to HD and don't have the framerate problems that killed the legacy features on Army of Darkness and Mad Max.

Assuming they do a new transfer (given recent history, I'm sure they will), I'm all over this.

This had better have a new 4K transfer, it deserves nothing less. Not sure what any new extras could add but this really is one of those times where the film supercedes all: in this case I don't care about no slipcases or alternate art or whatever, just get that goddamned transfer looking as good as it could possibly do.

I love The Thing but a new edition of this isn't that exciting for me, I think it's quite lazy to be honest.

Where all the new titles?

Seriously, 4K transfer or GTFO. They did one for Army of Darkness, so I suspect The Thing will receive the same treatment.

This. I already have the UK disc with the full documentary. All I want is a fresh scan because this film DESPERATELY needs it.

How is it lazy? Wouldn't it technically be more lazy to not put it out at all?

EDIT: Fact is the current edition has noise reduction flaws and is from a dated transfer. If Shout makes a new master, which I'm sure they will given their recent track record, it'll be worthy. Add in the fact we'll most likely get all the legacy supplements which are not on the current edition in their original form and no doubt some new ones as well it'll be great. I thought the new TCM 2 release was not gonna be worth it after owning the MGM and the Arrow release but after seeing the new transfer and new extras I picked it up and was not disappointed.

Interesting that they announced this one on Facebook before it went up on the Shout Factory site, which has generally been the way over the past few months.

As evidenced by the kinds of titles they've been releasing over the last year or two, they really don't have access to much of anything exciting and unreleased right now. We'd have to wait for Warner and/or Lionsgate to start licensing before we start seeing them do anything that everyone keeps requesting.

This is a MUCH more exciting announcement than any of their other re-releases, the current blu-ray of this legitimately sucks with a dated transfer and less extras than the DVD.

No it doesn't. It clearly can be improved upon, but DESPERATELY needing one? No, it's not that bad at all

Scream are falling into a re-release hole in my opinion.
But, that's just my opinion - I'm not knocking anyone who is excited by this release.

I agree with this. The current The Thing Blu-ray is not as bad as some make it out to be.

I just hope SF can give us a better transfer but that's not a for sure thing.

I can agree with this to an extent. As someone else pointed out, they are kind of nearing a point where they won't have much to release unless they go for some really s*** movies. They've already put out quite a few movies that are pretty bad so I don't mind them trying to give a good transfer to a classic like this.

Guys, they are re-releasing these films because they deserve the attention SCREAM is showing them.

How anyone can complain about this or something like it is ridiculous.
