They'd be foolish to not release exclusive slips or steelbooks where you choose Alliance or Horde

Lol, don't count it out just yet. It's making a killing so far in China

International territories are saving this movie, high-concept CGI-fests don't need North America anymore.

I ended up watching the movie Thursday night and I would give it a 6/10. I loved the world, the magic, the costume design, the battles and anything related to the Orcs, but the overall story, tone and pacing is just all over the place. Its better than most other video game adaptations and its a film that clearly had a lot of love behind it, but it could have been SO much better.

I can't see it being a huge success at the box office, but considering how well its doing in China, I think it will get its money back. I would like to see them continue with sequels so long as they take the criticisms to heart and attempt to make a better script based on that. Gonna be interesting to see how the blu-ray release is handled. Hopefully they have different versions based on the whole "Alliance vs. Horde" thing they had in the advertisements for the movie.

Same here. I tend to enjoy extended cuts more than their theatrical versions, so hopefully the film does well enough to warrant an extended release.

Word is that 40 minutes was cut from the movie, which "transformed" it into a adventure/action movie from a original intended character drama. They said the movie was made for fans by fans, so I do think the "to much lore at once" would still be a valid critisism. However the pacing would probably be better and you would feel more attached to the characters as they would have more time to build them up.

Edit: worthy of note is that we are not guaranteed an extended cut. It all depends on the BO they said. It is interesting that both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes shows a critic score around the 30% mark while the same sites + IMDB shows a user score around 80%. One critic compared to Battlefield Earth even!

Edit2: Reply to the movie review in post #2, from a guy who have invested a lot of time into the universe. He noted that performance from Ben Foster wasn't over the top because that was how the character he portrayed was. He also addresses the fact that he can see why people might complain about it, but he applauds Ben's performance. (09:28 into the video)

With Duncan Jones specifically mentioning an Extended Cut and then saying it depends on the BO, followed by saying hes hoping to hear in a few weeks..

I feel like he already knows the extended cut will be released and is just trying to be coy about it so more people see it in theaters rather than just wait for the blu-ray

at least I hope im right, I saw the movie and liked it but it really would benefit from the extra footage.

I hope so too, but you never know what exec thinks. Like... would Deadpool ever been made if it wasn't for someone leaking the testfootage that had collected dust for 2-3 years(?). The movie pretty much bombed in the US and I'm curious if that will have any impact at all for the decision. Say what you want about the movie as a whole, but for me... a 3/10 is a whole nother level of bad than what this movie was. Battlefield Earth got a 2/10 on IMDB (9/100 on metacritic) and there is no way Warcraft is as bad. But that didn't stop a critic to compare the two.

If a movie makes $50 mil in NA you have to discount the theaters cut, distribution costs, production costs, advertising costs, all of which may or may not be added into the reported budget. That is why you must make 2.5x (at least) of your budget to begin to make a profit.

It's even a worse return for international markets, where distribution is way more expensive, and you have localization costs, and studios often outsource international distribution to other studios.

Taking the numbers at face value is a huge mistake.

universal will lwant to milk money, so they wont release extended cut at first, b ut the regular edition only to see if they make enough money then they will release the extended cut which unlikely north america gets...who knows...

i wonder if the 40 min scenes thjat has been cut has finished CGI like the rest of the movie....that's probably the most important part if it were ever to be released via extended.

I'm sure it will be finished, if it was unfinished they would have it as an extra but they wouldn't want to have it mixed into the theatrical cut, it would be too jarring.
