I used to be a long time Tony Hawk vet. The franchise has gone stale and is pretty much dead in my eyes.

Skate is an amazing game that puts Tony Hawk to shame. The framerate is sluggish though, presumably due to it being a bad x360 port. Still, this is forgivable as the game is quite enjoyable. I just finished career mode after some 25 hours of gameplay. I suppose there's some replay value left short of playing the career challenges again or playing multiplayer, but running around with no more objectives isn't overly interesting to me.

I played both Dirt and Skate demos, and was sold on skate within 10 minutes of playing. While Dirt is absolute eye candy to look at, I found it exceedingly dull to play... the controls were a let down and it didn't feel like much of a real driving experience.

I voted for Skate because the game play is different.

skate was such a huge shock for me when i first got it.
i was always a fan of the tony hawk games, so, when i was about to pick up proving ground, the sales guy talked me into getting skate.

when i first played, i loved how accurate and interesting the controls were. very simple but very well thought out. like the gran turismo of skating games.

i downloaded the demo of proving ground and could not even get through the first 5 minutes cause of the frustrating gameplay, arcade like controls and annoying immaturity of it.

if youre into skating in real life, skate is a dream come true!!

dirt.

1. the ps3 version is better than the 360, reward devs that put in extra effort
2. personally, i think its the better game.
3. i don't reward crap EA ports
4. Colin McRae was a legend and you should pick up the last edition of his seriers. RIP Colin McRae.

Default Dirt over Skate

They're both good games.

I'd prefer Skate over Tony Hawk because its something new and different.

I'd prefer Dirt over Skate, because i'm more into racing games than skating games.

Dirt is just plain rally racing fun.

I totally agree about SKATE. THPS used to be my favorite franchise, I owned every THPS game that came out on the PS2. Then Skate came along. WOW. How can anybody, especially people like me who skate or used to skate, not love this game? I am assuming you don't skate, simply because you don't think SKATE has any replayabilty. To me, skating my favorite spots or even finding random cool spots to hit up brings me sheer joy. I beat the game when it first came out, and I freeskate just about every other day. To the original poster, I have SKATE and DiRT. They are both great games in my opinion. You made a good choice in picking up both of them. I think you'll be pleased.
