Excellent news. Now let the concerns over color timing and aspect ratios begin!

Gives me hope that we might yet see a collection of Universal's classic 50s sci-fi films.

Nice! I'm apparently going to have to start a second job acting in porn films this fall in order to pay for all of the September/October Blu-ray releases that I want.

Yeah, the same old transfers that they've been licensing out, then not so good, but new HD jobs from the Universal that bought us Spartacus, then one of the releases of the year. Fingers crossed (hoping for the best, but expecting the worse).

Oh, & while they're at it, The Universal Frankenstein sequels please.

Are these gonna be sold separately or just as the collection?

I'd expect them only in the collection for the forseeable future. Most of those would have a hard time selling on their own

True, true.

Btw, it's currently priced at $59.98. Not too shabby for 8 films.

Great news. I'm been holding out to get that mega Hammer Horror set from Australia, but I'm for sure getting this too.

It does appear that these are on 4-discs (at least going by Amazon's often unreliable info). Not a huge deal. I do expect these to me mostly barebones. The price is pretty solid, and will no doubt drop even further.

The double sided discs that Universal released for these over 10 years ago had preaty good PQ, too bad the discs themselves were freeze prone junk.

The following titles should be included:

(Brides of Dracula / Curse of the Werewolf / Phantom of the Opera / Paranoiac / Kiss of the Vampire / Nightmare / Night Creatures / Evil of Frankenstein)

So it's basically an upgrade of this?

It's a bit of a mish-mash of titles but I'll gladly pick it up as there's a good 4 or 5 must-haves in that set.

Now just waiting for Warner to announce a volume 2 of their Hammer collection.

The bad news is the masters that were destroyed in a fire years ago and unavailable and some of the new replacement masters have framing issues or are from a lesser source.

7 have had a UK release, 4 were technically flawed.
BRIDES ( wrong ratio, from a lesser source than the DVD )
WEREWOLF ( UK BD in incorrect ratio )
PHANTOM ( dropped frames )
NIGHT CREATURES ( was 1080i )

Guessing we'll get the same here except NIGHT CREATURE will be proper 1080p.
Still, a pleasant surprise and seems irresistible for Hammer nuts.

Fortunately, I've learned when to stop reading and start watching .

I read threads for info about specs and I like to see reviews and user comments. But I know when it's time to just enjoy the movies.

It's like a Kubrick thread...once the aspect ratio talk starts, I'm gone.

This looks like a great bargain and I have no doubt that we will read dozens of posts about how transfer from (insert foreign contry here) looks better. I've just passed the 1,000 mark in my BD collection so I can't let my nitpicking time cut into my viewing time .

Werewolf is the only one I'm interested in, so if I do pick this up it'll have to be at a sub-$30 price down the line.

That's so true. I think I returned two copies before I stumbled upon one that didn't have a problem (that I noticed!).

Universal reissued that set on single-sided DVD's a couple of years ago in a standard case and discontinued that horrible flipper version with freeze-prone discs. But Blu is even better!
