It seems you can also use Wii Classic Controllers.

Quote:
You can even enjoy playing several of these games with two players by attaching a second NES Classic Controller, which will be sold separately at a suggested retail price of $9.99. A Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro can also be used (each sold separately).

When connected to a Wii Remote controller, the NES Classic Controller can also be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii system. Playing these retro games using a retro controller makes the experience that much more authentic

The system comes packaged with an HDMI cable, an AC adapter and one NES Classic Controller, which is patterned after the iconic design of the original NES controller.
Nicely done.

Agreed, especially the extra controller given Nintendo's distribution model. If you don't get on this right away it might be a long time before you get one unless you're willing to pay scalper prices.

Absolutely no information anywhere about upscaling or shader options. Should we assume this will function exactly as if you had a vanilla NES somehow HDMI wired and not something along the lines of an AnalogueNT?

Absolutely love it... I hope there is a way (there should be) to add more games to it later...

And I really, really hope this sells well so they do the same thing for the SNES...

Well done Nintendo, well done...

Not going to happen. That would eat into their VC business on their other systems. There's only ports for controllers, video and power. How would you get games on it?

The Wii U is on the way out anyway. For the price this thing could get more people to buy classic games. As for how to get the games I'd assume WiFi. You're right it probably won't happen, but it isn't too crazy to thing it can't.

I will definitely be getting this.

Yes it is. You actually think there's even a 1% chance Nintendo put wifi on this and is making a back end to support an NES only VC service on a novelty item when they can't even properly support NES VC across one gen transition with Wii and WiiU?

Is this neat? Sure but they can't even tell us output options so it's probably something I'd buy and keep in the box. I'm actually surprised the extra controllers are as cheap as they are.

You act like WiFi is this super expensive thing to add. An Amazon Fire or a Roku cost less and they have WiFi and can easily handle NES games. So it isn't like adding WiFi would even remotely cost Nintendo more. And back end support? What back end support do you need? These games are 1MB or less and can be purchased and downloaded easily.

I don't understand why the idea seems so crazy. I agree it won't happen most likely however the thought that it is crazy seems weird. This is obviously Nintendo thinking differently. Something like this is odd and new territory for them.

What service will this connect to? How will you pay for the games? That is a back end. It's not like you can just magically connect to the WiiU, Wii or 3DS eShop with this so they will have to create a portal just for this console. Sure roms themselves are very small but have you seen how much bigger they get when they're on the VC? Where will you store them? In the storage that hasn't been announced? I don't care about the cost of a wifi antenna. It could be 5 cents or 5 dollars. They didn't say in the announcement that there's wifi so there's no reason to suggest it has it or could have it or that it's easy to include.

If this had a way to get more games I'm quite sure they would have announced it as a selling point.

Oh come now. Atari pulled off purchasing new games in a darn app.

As for storage obviously there is something on there. The 30 games and the OS aren't just magically inside.

I feel like a broken record saying I agree it probably won't happen. However the thought that it would be some huge feat for Nintendo to pull off is laughable. For the price point they are charging they could pull off a device that can emulate the games (that is all this will do) and have WiFi.

It's a neat idea, but also feels kind of desperate. It reminds me of those Genesis and Atari 20 games in 1 consoles you see at places like Bed,Bath, and Beyond. Even the packaging has that "As Seen on TV" look. I'm glad it has HDMI though.

That was my first reaction too. Hopefully it is a higher quality device than those are.

That Genesis device is a cheaply made device made by the Chinese company AtGames w/ composite video and horrible audio and you can't even save your games.

It's pretty obvious that this device will be way better.

I wonder if Europe will get 50 Hz versions or 60 Hz versions...
At least in this case 60 Hz fans can simply import one from US.

I think they're going for a retro look there, but yeah, it does look cheap.

Product info sounds promising though, but NES was before my time, so I have no nostalgia for these games or this system. Was always an N64 guy
