Japan Godzilla Anime Trilogy (2017-2018) (Distributed by Netflix)

A Godzilla anime movie is confirmed for a 2017 theatrical release

I'm surprised it took them this long to create a Godzilla anime as the character seems well suited for one and yet Toho stuck with live action effects rather than animation. No confirmation if it will be a continuation of Shin (I doubt it) or something completely new but this is interesting none the less

After the 10 year hiatus following Final Wars, the Godzilla franchise has certainly come back to life. First the American 2014 film, with sequels scheduled for release in 2019 and 2020; Shin Godzilla currently playing in theaters in Japan, which is on track to become one of the most successful installments in Godzilla's homeland; and now an animated film coming next year.

What a time to be a Godzilla fan. Of course, it's way too early to say whether this will be good or bad, but it definitely has potential.

I'm hoping they do something unique with this one. It would be cool if this was set in a post apocalyptic future where Godzilla has already destroyed all the cities and military's of the planet and humanity struggles to survive in a world dominated by monsters. That would be a cool flick that would make it different than anything done with the character before

I was looking up the people involved as I'm not familiar with their work, and I thought this bit on Gen Urobuchi - the main writer on this film - was funny:

Quote:
He is known for his dark style, nihilistic themes, and tragic plot twists.
Considering they got Anno to helm Shin Godzilla, I'm sensing a theme here.

A Godzilla anime with a script written by Gen Urobuchi.

.....I'm sorry I'm trying to process that. I have no doubt it'll be great but now I'm having flashbacks to Puella Magi Madoka Magica and what a hellish gauntlet it was.

I don't care for anime, but if it has Godzilla in it, I'll watch it.

Humans returning to reclaim Earth after abandoning it due to all the hostile giant monsters? Like a future Attack on Titan?

If this was anything as mundane as "Godzilla fights another monster / aliens," they'd just make another live-action movie. If it's animated, I hope it's because it's such a new and different world that it has to be animated.

New Mecha in Godzilla Anime Concept Art, Voice Cast Announced

Quote:
All has been silent on Polygon's animated Godzilla film, but it seems all of that is about to change. Recently some new tidbits have surfaced. Godzilla-Anime.com released new concept art featuring a futuristic, armor-clad scout troop with large mecha traveling alongside them. The art is titled "Old Tanzawa - Forest B". So far we have no context for these 'bots or the scout team, so it's unclear what all of these variables mean.

Meanwhile, the official Godzilla Anime Twitter, announced popular voice talents attached to the project: Yuki Kaji (Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan), Takahiro Sakurai (McGillis Fareed from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), Tomokazu Sugita (Marlo from Attack on Titan), Junichi Suwabe (Dandy from Space Dandy), Kana Hanazawa (Sakuya from .hack//Quantum) and Mamoru Miyano (Setsuna F. Seiei from Mobile Suit Gundam 00). So far there are no details on the characters these actors will play.

On March 26th, the voice actors will be present at Anime Japan 2017 with a special presentation for the upcoming film. We should know more about the film by then at the latest.

What do you think about the new concept art? Are you pleased with the case so far? Sound off your thoughts in the comments below!

Default Godzilla Anime Film (2017)

Didn't see a thread, but lets discuss the animated Godzilla feature from Toho/Polygon pictures coming in summer 2017! Written by Gen Urobochi, main writer of Madoka Magika so.... should be interesting!

Is this based off of Shin Godzilla or something different? I'm up for anything Godzilla so this will be another beauty (hopefully). Oh, and is it going to be dubbed or subbed?

Totally new story. Not sure about the subs or dubs, since no US release has been mentioned

I'd be absolutely shocked if there wasn't a US release. I mean, come on, it's Godzilla.

Assuming Funimation picks up the rights like they did with ShinG, I think it could go either way with the dub/sub thing. The Blu-Ray would most likely have both, but considering ShinG didn't have any English dub at all, maybe this new film won't have one either.

Funimation will probably pick this up, and Shin is getting a dub on its blu-ray release!
