This and The Price Is Right were my go-to shows whenever I was home sick from school growing up.

Bob Ross was a gift to mankind. I mean, look at this . . .

And this was just brilliant.

Bob Ross is a cure for insomnia.

And I don't mean that in a bad way. The shows are great, interesting, fun to watch.

But he's so damn calm and relaxing if you try to marathon the show, you wind up chilled out and asleep.

A lot of people also don't know that he was actually in the US Air Force, too, ultimately achieving the rank of First Sergeant. In his own words, he was "the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work." Impossible to imagine after watching The Joy of Painting, but he had apparently vowed to never raise his voice again after leaving the service.
