Arrow Elex (Open World from Gothic RPG Team)

Open world RPG with sci fi post apocalyptic, and medieval/magic themes, with 5 main terrains to explore from the start, from the creators of the PS3 games; Gothic, Risen and PS4's Risen 3. I only played Arcania (spin off of Gothic) which was fun despite the PS3 quality graphics and gameplay.

Elex looks like it'll be available on PS4, XB1, PC in 2017.

Thanks to the open world, you have access to all five regions of the game world right from the very start. Go where you want, choose your battles and your allies, the only thing in the world that will stop you, are the mutant creatures that live in Magalan’s Elex polluted landscapes. Walk, run, or punch your jetpack into action, if you can see it, you can reach it. http://elexgame.com/

Yeah, it looks promising as far as a smaller studio game. Looking forward to more news in 2017.

Quarter 3 2017 release. Probably Fall 2017.

I'll probably get this game for the promising open world map to explore. It's from the team that made the Gothic/Arcania games, Risen games.

Review of Elex, which is a lower budget game. The reviewer suggests that despite its flaws, there is fun to be found in Elex.

The open world is said to be giant to explore in the game. Elex is available now to my surprise. I wasn't tracking it and just stumbled onto the fact it was released October 17, 2017.

It's been quite successful on pc so far, will be interesting how it does on consoles where the devs seem less known.

That's good to hear about the PC audience, thanks.
This is the kind of open world exploration I look for in a game, so it has my attention with the giant map and wide variety of terrain, with some Fallout and Skyrim thrown in there from the look of the characters, buildings and landscapes. I like the real time combat too, having played this style of game in the past. Arcania I enjoyed despite the low budget.

The game description says you can choose your style; so you could probably go with swords and shields, or go high tech with lasers, flamethrowers or machine guns I'm guessing from the screen shot above with the gun.

Extremely early impression having finished a very brief intro...

This game is quite obviously closer to indie than AAA in production quality both in appearance, gameplay and dialog. Too early to say whether it's a good or bad game. Combat, which has only been against a few small animals at this point, feels clumsy. That might get better as you level up.

What bothers me the most thus far is that you will miss any item that can be picked up, examined or interacted with, if your weapon is drawn. It's easy to forget to resheath, so missing things will be an issue.

It might be faring better among the PC crowd, because it just might be more efficient to play with mouse and keyboard than with the DS4.

With the combat in these style games (Arcania), it's generally free form in that it seems there's no lock on ability from what I remember when fighting one vs one. The roll move is helpful, after attacking, to avoid the next strike.

Actually, it looks like there is kind of a lock on of the player to the enemy as seen in the video above, as he walks backwards while still facing the enemy.

The map looks like good exploration.

EDIT: This last video convinced me to get this game. Will try it out soon.

Was able to play Elex and while it takes getting used to, I'm enjoying the map and the 3 camera views to select from (over the shoulder, mid and far views). The combat is clumsy though, and if you venture out from the start to explore the rest of the map, expect a lot of 1 hit kills from enemies, even on easy mode. The game is very unforgiving at first.
The graphics are good to okay, and look good during the natural landscapes. Managed to reach the desert Outlaws, and they're heavily influenced by Fallout, to the point one of the female characters says the word "Fallout".
Searching for markers with the map is not always clear until you get used to looking at the mini map onscreen, but it works for the most part.

The performance on the PS4 is decent, and the only slow down I noticed is when you bring up your map. While in the game world, I didn't notice any major slow down or stuttering frame rate as with Fallout New Vegas on PS3, which would literally stop moving every 10 seconds before restarting the frame rate.

This is definitely a low budget game, but it has its own charm and I like the story so far.

EDIT UPDATE:
Discovered the whole map before having any strength and only carrying an axe and a shield. Just keep running when the enemies show up. Don't draw your weapon or it'll lock you into a fight.

The map is nice with a lot of variety, which I like. The camera views are helpful and varied. The fighting is decent once your character powers up with higher levels. There are many one hit kills in the game though, and it's a very tough game in that sense, especially against projectiles and shots from enemies.

Making progress now with 11 hours in the game, though admittedly 7 hours was all exploration with no missions completed. The missions are mostly fetch missions and hassling through the menus to find the next mission is clumsy. Even so, for a low budget game, it's mostly reliable and kind of fun. Probably worth $29.99 but not full price.

Nearly done with the first game and absolutely loved it overall. The difficulty at the beginning makes the point where you become a monster that can defeat everything so worth it. Really looking forward to the sequel.

Cool. I'll have to revisit the game, as I only got halfway through before other AAA games took my attention away. I really like the post apocalyptic landscape and the jet pack is a cool feature.

Yes, the new game, Elex 2 should be available soon. Actually, it's available now according to Sony Playstation.

Elex 2 PS5 disc version is 19.99 on amazon .com at the moment through the site links for PS5 above. 59.99 digitally.

Elex 1 PS4 is still 49.99 digitally. That's a long time to still be at full price.

EDIT: Elex 2 in 4K looks good on PS5. I think it's only 30 fps though.
The landscape is just okay, and mostly green plants and green grass. I haven't found any vast deserts or sanddunes like in the first game. Plus if you're not ready in the game, you cannot go into the cold mountains and will die within seconds from instantly frost bite.

The enemies, even on easy mode, are very overpowered throughout the world, but if you have the disc version as I do, there is a way for explorers who don't care about completing missions, to just freely explore the landscape and not die every five seconds, with a special glitch in the game that allows you to power up your health infinitely. If you update the game at all however, it doesn't work anymore. The game is just as stable from the disc as the updated version, so I deleted the update by deleting the game installation, the reinstalling it. My game saves remained intact and I was able to get back my invincible character. I just want to explore, I don't care about the missions too much.
