Looks interesting. If the 3D is consistently strong like with NWave, I'll consider it.

Just got finished watching Snowtime. A group of friends team up against each other for a war game using snow as weapons. It's suppose to be a few weeks of fun but the game turns a little too personal and ends with tragedy. Small children may be affected by the ending. The 3D was OK. Mild to medium with a few pop outs. But there is no WOW about the 3D. I'd only recommend this if you can pick it up for under $10.

Thanks for the review and I had been close to buying it but the amazon reviews didn't look to promising.

The movie isn't bad and I did like the style. It just could have been better with better 3D. There were a lot of missed opportunities where the 3D could have really shined. Too bad most film makers just don't get it.

Thanks a lot for the 3D review Dartfrog. I agree, filmmakers need to be daring with the 3D, and not timid. Timid, mild 3D is boring 3D IMO. Strong 3D is like looking into another world.

This was fun. I haven't seen the original film or read the book, but the subject matter lends itself well to this animated version, because there's a lot of fun things you can do in animation that wouldn't be possible in live action (at least at the time of the original film). The animation has a unique and distinctive style, which some may consider to be simple but I enjoyed it. As others have mentioned, the 3D was okay but really should have been stronger. Canadian winters in my area aren't what they used to be when I was growing up (due to global warming I imagine), so this type of kids snow movie hits the spot for me... even in May! (I also picked up the sequel Racetime, which clearly needs a 3D version!)

I imported a limited number of extra copies of this from the Hamilton Books sale. If any fellow Canadians are interested in a copy, shoot me a PM.

The title of this thread should probably be changed to Snowtime instead of Showtime.

for everyone fact's sake, this is an animated remake of the original 1984 movie "La Guerre des Tuques" https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/La-gu...lu-ray/142249/ this one was remade for younger kids who didn't live the 80s version era. it's pretty much a 1:1 copy with a younger feel.

Recommended for 3D aficionados who appreciate a rare “Rendered in 3D” vs a conversion…

Snowtime is a conversion. Notice how GoFindFun thinks it looks weird because some objects have depth and some don't. Also notice objects that move in his wiggle screenshots. Their viewpoint angles never change. They just shift left and right without providing any new visual information. If it were rendered natively, you'd be able to sort of see around the other side of the object when it shifts.

I agree that the single perspective on certain elements supports the notion that it was converted….that said, the author specifically stated “rendered in 3D”….and further noted:

“ a natively shot or rendered 3D can be significantly more “flat" than a conversion. And often needs to be to keep the background in check. One of the advantages of conversions is being able to add disparity where it wouldn't naturally occur. Which is especially helpful with close-ups. This "flatness" is actually one of the reasons I assumed it to be rendered. That and the nature shots seemed to have a smoothness in perspective.”

Well, I've been wrong before, so that is a possibility.

Looks like Technicolor Montreal and Mathieu Beausoleil are responsible for the 3D. They've worked on a number of stereo films. Many were released flat, but of the 3D I've seen, they all look pretty similar.
