Default Surround Sound PS3 advice

Hey guys, I recently purchased an HDTV and PS3 as well as an LG home theater set. I got the PS3 and TV set up, but how do I get my home theater set to work together with my PS3 and give me surround sound on games?

Don't know what an optical input or RCA are but I have an HDMI cable that connects my PS3 to my HDTV and I'll check on that LG model.

Okay, it's LHT764

This is an Optical Cable.

Don't know what your system looks like, but if your receiver doesn't have HDMI input, you'll have to use optical. Since the PS3 only has one HDMI out, you'll have to pick which device to output your HDMI signal to.

If your receiver has HDMI in, you can send the PS3 to it, then output from receiver to TV via HDMI.

And yes, Monster cables are ridiculously overpriced, even though some people with more money than I swear by them.

for the time being you can use the red/white cable that came with the PS3 for audio. It will only be in stereo, but its better than nothing.

But you should get an Optical cable for 5.1 audio.

Okay, my LG DVD box thing that came with the speakers has an HDMI cable area that says 1080i. I only have 1 cable.

Its HDMI out only...so he has to go directly to the TV from the PS3. And then use optical for audio.

Okay, so basically I can use the full 5.1 surround sound if I just get an optical cable and hook it up to the DVD box and the back of the TV?

Connect the Optical cable from the PS3 to the Sound system (not the TV).

And the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV.

So, you'll have the optical cable running from the PS3 to the DVD player "optical in" and the HDMI cable running from the PS3 to the TV. Then you'll have to futz with settings on the PS3 and DVD player to get it all working properly (PS3 ~ Audio Output settings have to be set to "Optical" and Video Output settings have to be set to "HDMI")

Can't help with the settings on the DVD player though... sorry.

Honestley you should not have a seperate DVD player, just use the PS3 for playing DVD's. It also upscales them.

I ordered the optical cable. Oh, and I bought a home theater system solely for the speakers, I didn't really need the DVD player cuz I have the PS3.

Okay, so I just got the optical cable. Hooked it up to my PS3 and my DVD box where all my speakers hook up to, and it won't work. I went to PS3 settings and set up Optical, and 5.1 dolby digital. When I go to my DVD box setup there's nothing about optical settings.

I think I have the same set as you. On the remote for the DVD player, there should be like a button called D. Input....just press that until it says AUX OPT and it should work.

Yeah, there's a long one that says D.input. Whenever I push it though nothing happens. When I go to the box and run through the functions I see USB, Ipod, radio, and all that but I don't see D.input. There is an Aux however. Is that the one?

O right, press Aux until it says Aux on dvd player screen and then try pressing D. input.

Yeh, I did that and got Aux Opt but it seems only my front 2 and maybe subwoofer work. My center and 2 rears aren't working. I set the PS3 up so it's dolby digital 5.1

Have you played a movie or game yet? Cause I think while using the menu for PS3, it only uses the front 2 speakers. o yea and make sure XTS-Pro (there's a button for it on the remote) is on I think the sound sounds a bit better with that on.
