I would really love to see a Release Synopsis field added to the database.
Rather than digging through the official review (if there is one), user reviews (again, if there are any) and sometimes pages and pages of forum posts, the Release Synopsis would provide a very brief description of the particular release to help fellow collectors quickly and easily figure out the key points of what sets apart (or detracts from) the release, either on its own or compared to other releases. This would be an incredibly useful field to have when movies often have a handful of releases. I always check Blu-ray.com when I'm trying to decide which version of a product to buy, and I usually end up reading through dozens or more pages of forum posts. This field, which could go in the Overview section, would solve that. For example, I was reading about the Black Cauldron Blu-ray release, and was pretty unhappy to hear the way the transfer was treated. So then I looked at my old Gold DVD, and I wondered if it ever had another DVD release. It did! But finding out what exactly the difference was between the two DVD releases took more digging - and also leaving Blu-ray.com to visit other websites. So the Release Synopsis for the 25th Anniversary release of The Black Cauldron DVD might read as such: "This second DVD release of The Black Cauldron improves greatly on the previous Gold Collection DVD. In addition to being anamorphic (the Gold DVD wasn't), this 25th Anniversary release was created from a new digital master, resulting in significantly improved picture quality." After reading this, since I didn't even have to leave the main product page, I'll just go ahead and click that Amazon buy link ![]() Or another example, the original Matrix DVD might read as such: "With the release of the second and third Matrix movies, the first Matrix movie was significantly updated with new color grading to match the greener color scheme of its sequels. This DVD has the original color grading of The Matrix from its theatrical release." After reading that, I might scratch my head and say "What?! I never knew about this!" And then I'll click the buy link ![]() So by having this Release Synopsis info be part of the front page of a release, I think you can provide a lot of valuable (and interesting) information. |
