Default HD Players vs Upconversion

I've found it funny that many say upconversion is "good" enough. It may be if you have never seen the a HD player in action, but once you have, nothing compares.

Once I had my upconverter for awhile, I hooked my 480p player back up and noticed a good deal of softness compared to 1080i upconversion. Ever since I purchased my BD player in March the upconverter has been in the closet.

Well, my father in law got one of the very expensive Bose lifestyle systems for Christmas and I helped him set it up yesterday. We then watched Die Hard 4 and Transformers upconverted. While they looked great, neither compared to the HD versions I have in sharpeness/detail and color.

So, while upconversion may be fine if you dont know any better, its not enough if you do.

Yeah, I think when people see good movies in full 1080p, they won't think upconversion is good enough anymore

No, they dont look as good, but if you are taking a stand with whatever format you choose, an upconverted DVD is something that many have accepted and can deal with until they can buy their movies in the format they support or the war is over and we are given no choice. I own both and Transformers was and is the last HD-DVD that I purchase, so now that I want Bourne Ult. I can go out and buy the HDDVD and contribute to prolong this war or settle for the DVD until the Blu-ray is released. I think I'll wait for any current and future titles to come to Blu.

It's definitely not good enough. But what it is is good enough to watch things like Heroes on my PS3 at least until it is on BD. At the right angle, it looked like I was watching a BD. I still maintain that the best unconvert is the PS3.

Agreed, I bought my $98 A2 and transformers and have purchased a few catalog titles. I have no plans in the near future to buy and HDDVD discs.
