United Kingdom Stigmata (1999) 17th Oct 2016

Been waiting for this for years. I'll end up getting it anyway, though wondered if anyone knew what the transfer was like and if it now includes the apparent missing '4 minutes'.

Thanks

Given it's released by Eureka would suggest posting in their sticky thread at the top of the page.

May have been already discussed there. Plus I believe some of the people from the company respond to posts in that thread.

Good enough movie to have its own thread though

I always thought of Stigmata as an "ok" picture, infested with clichés and b-movie sensibilities that wants to transcend at the end, when it's way too late. Destined to be forgotten or not worth much more than 5 bucks at an offer bin.

I might give it another shot.

For me it's one of those which become "a lot better then I remembered". I picked this up earlier this week and was impressed with the disc overall.

Don't see these Eureka releases hitting £5, or at least I've not seen them.

I haven't seen it since renting it on VHS in 2000 and that's exactly how I remember it!

I second that re-watch.

They do go as low as that! Some were exactly that price in their Black Friday sale, others 7 GBP. Some of their direct sale prices are insane.

But yes this is a relatively new title and unlikely to go down that quick.

Other than Dvdbeaver, has there been any comparison between the encode on this disc versus the Shout Factory release. I know the bitrate is about 10mb/s higher, but since this is an older master, I wonder if there is an appreciable difference?

Capeligh are reissuing the film for the UK market as a mediabook on 11th December, not sure there would be any benefit over the Eureka release.

I get the impression Capelight are just grabbing whatever UK rights they can get for MGM titles they already have, and simply porting them over here. It's interesting that there are certain ones they seemingly haven't got the rights to; namely The Apartment, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Rollerball, and To Live and Die in L.A. - all which could be upgraded by Arrow at some point - but also The Great Escape (Criterion?), Red River (Eureka?), Heaven's Gate/Thunderbolt & Lightfoot (Second Sight?), and Kalifornia (??).

Either way let's hope they don't make a habit of it as they're essentially just porting over really expensive editions in Digibooks that nobody really cares for over here (as far as I'm aware). If I wasn't prepared to pay about £7-8 for Stigmata when Eureka released it, why would I pay roughly 4 times that? Of course I'd pay £7-8 right now just because it's OOP, and it's a fairly fun watch (in other words, I regret ignoring the Eureka disc whilst it was sensibly priced).
