Financial research firm Teikoku Databank reported on Thursday that the Studio Fantasia anime studio filed for bankruptcy on November 16.

Tomohisa Iizuka founded the company in 1983 after leaving Tsuchida Production (which itself became bankrupt three years later in 1986). The company primarily produced television anime and animation for games, and outsourced production. Some of the company's first projects included outsourced production from Gainax's Gunbuster 1988 OAV series. Some of the studio's original works included Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry, Najica Blitz Tactics, Stratos 4, and the Agent Aika franchise. Studio Fantasia also produced such anime as Rumbling Hearts, SaiKano: Another Love Song, and Aozora Shōjo-tai.

The company's last original production was the Glass Maiden series in 2008, and the last production where Studio Fantasia was the main animation production team was the Nozoki Ana OVA in 2013. Since then, the studio has worked on outsourced production in shows such as Nisekoi, Cross Ange, and Aikatsu!.

The company had a capital stock valued at 3 million yen (about US$26,600). At its height in 2006, the company reported an annual income of approximately 384 million yen (about US$3.40 million in current conversion), but its reported annual income fell to approximately 100 million yen (about US$886,671 in current conversion) in 2015.
