Please add Ghostbusters to the list. Aspect ratio changes at the end of the movie and there's excessive frame breaking throughout.

Hi all,

And what is the reason for the change in aspect ratios? IMAX special scenes?

I don't find they add anything to the experience but could it be I'm unaware of the action its adding?

Has anybody else noticed it? I've seen the movie couple of times, but didn't see any frame breaking.

Nice idea.

I think Life of Pi also used frame breaking during the flying fish scene.

Now, I've only seen it once, but did the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a frame break? I think it was near the end with Donatello's staff. Can't remember.

Could also add Doctor Strange 3D under upcoming as the IMAX 3D presentation had aspect ratio changes.

Yeah, I saw the first theatrically in 3D and I remember the popout. Although I don't have a 3D setup, the DVD has the frame break as well.

There was the scene during the end credits of Monsters vs. Aliens where the aspect ratio starts at 2.35:1 and keeps getting wider until it reaches 2.75:1, which allows the President in the film to break the frame.

Yes, it has a "fake frame breaking" effect. The 2.35:1 image goes narrower (to 2.85:1?) and then there is a frame breaking effect. It all happens within the 2.35:1 area. I'll check the scene again later.

Thank you for this!

I don't know how to call this effect (fake frame breaking?) because the picture gets window boxed and the frame breaking effect stays within the 2.35:1 area, but it's still valid to the list.

The scene is at the beginning of the film where the person with a branding iron is coming towards Max and happens at 3:56.

As we're talking about time codes, the scene where Max kicks Slit happens at 27:11

I think there may be more too, like when Nux slips on the war rig and his pistol flies into/ out of the frame.

The thing is with Fury Road is the frame breaks are quicker than in any other movie I've seen them so they can be really hard to catch.

The pistol scene is just a pop out, no frame breaking.

But yes, there might be even more "frame breaking" scenes as they are so quick...
