![]() ![]() Director Tomm Moore presented his follow-up for Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, Ross Stewart (art director of 'Kells') will co-direct and the movie is scripted by Will Collins (Song of the Sea). Again, Irish folklore has in important part in the story, this time about the mythical creatures that can change into wolves. In a time where superstition and magic ruled the world, wolves were seen as the evil of nature, something that must be supressed. Robyn, a young girl who's teaching how to hunt, travels to Ireland with her father to eliminate the very last pack of wolves. Everything changes when Robyn rescues the wild girl Mebh. When they become friends, Roby slowly turns into one of the very creatures her father is ordered to kill ... There is no release dat yet. 2018, I guess. From Cartoon Sallon we get The Breadwinner in 2017. More art ... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I was very captivated (right word?) by 'Kells', something really beautiful, fascinating and unique to look at. Unfortunately I haven't seen 'Song / Sea" yet, since it's not available on BR where I live and foreign editions don't have the subs I need. Very much looking forward to this third feature!

I've finally seen 'Song of the Sea', which was also beautifully animated and full of wonder, but the story didn't connect as much to me compared with the superior 'Secret of Kells'.
I was wondering this, though: Is this supposed to be a 'spiritual old local tales' trilogy? Cause there's no denying all three of these movies have the same style, but above all bring some comparable legends to life and play with those spirit-elements and traditional local music. The themes are the same. In fact, all these movies could exist in the same universe, but different times. Not that it's a bad thing, not at all. 'Wolfwalkers' is very high on my watch list. |

![]() ![]() Apple Is Getting Into Feature Animation, Possibly With Cartoon Saloon. It doesn’t get much bigger than this. Apple, yes, the computer maker, is looking to start producing animated features, according to a report in Bloomberg. The Cupertino, California company is currently in talks with Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, according to people who were familiar with the negotiations. Cartoon Saloon is best known for its Oscar-nominated films The Breadwinner, The Secret of Kells, and Song of the Sea, as well as the preschool series Puffin Rock. Last year, we exclusively debuted the trailer for one of Cartoon Saloon’s upcoming feature film projects, The Wolfwalkers. Apple is looking to acquire distribution rights for a select number of countries, including the United States, for a specific unnamed Cartoon Saloon project. It would also likely create a theatrical release for the film so that it could qualify for the Academy Awards. Both Apple and Cartoon Saloon declined to comment on the record to Bloomberg. The news report stresses that the deal hasn’t been sealed and could still far apart, but needless to say, the prospect of Apple, currently the most valuable company in the world in terms of market capitalization, investing in feature animation is a gamechanger. The company is already investing in original series animation, such as its recently announced Central Park series from 20th Century Fox Television. Apple still hasn’t unveiled its new streaming platform, but the service will almost certainly be designed for viewing on iPhones and iPads, and through Apple TV. The company recently hired children’s entertainment veteran Tara Sorensen to head up creative development for children’s programming, which is an indicator that it could produce children’s series in the future. |

Oh it looks amazing! I can't believe that I missed the news about this being made before today! Big fan of Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, and anything Irish, so it's a day 1 blind buy as soon as it gets released!

![]() ![]() It’s Official: Apple Has Picked Up Rights To Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Wolfwalkers’ t’s official: Apple’s soon-to-launch video service has acquired the rights to Tomm Moore and Cartoon Saloon’s next film Wolfwalkers. The news was confirmed by Deadline on Saturday evening. Moore, who has directed the Oscar-nominated films The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, will co-direct the film with longtime collaborator Ross Stewart, who was the art director of The Secret of Kells, and co-directed with Moore the Cartoon Saloon sequence in the anthology feature The Prophet. “Since we came up with the idea many years ago it felt natural that we would co-direct this film together,” Moore told Cartoon Brew. Wolfwalkers, writen by Will Collins (Song of the Sea), will be co-produced with Luxembourg’s Melusine Productions, and produced by Nora Twomey, Paul Young, and Stéphan Roelants. It’s an idea that Moore has been developing for years. Wolfwalkers tells the story of 11-year-old Robyn Goodfellow, a young apprentice hunter who comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack of wolves. Her life changes though after she saves a native girl, Mebh, which leads to her discovery of the Wolfwalkers and transforms her into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy. Wolfwalkers will have a distinctive graphic look that reinforces the themes and values of its story. As seen in scenes from the trailer, the Puritans and English army are rendered in an ascetic woodblock style, while the wolfwalkers and wolves exhibit a freer, more expressive line style. “When we see the world from the point of view the wolves, it’s animated in charcoal with a very limited palette and color only where there are scents,” Moore told Cartoon Brew. “In contrast to the block print style in Kilkenny [Ireland] we have a much looser look to the forest — lots of ink splats and loose watercolors and scribbly pencil lines.” Apple has still not publicly revealed plans for its streaming service, but it is now clear that the company will invest in both feature animation and series. It had previously announced that it will produce Central Park, an original musical animated series from 20th Century Fox Television written by Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, Grammy winner Josh Gad of Frozen fame, and Bob’s Burgers alum Nora Smith. It’s no small news that Apple is entering the animation world considering that it is currently the world’s most valuable company, with a market capitalization of over $1 trillion dollars. Apple’s worldwide video division is headed by Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. ![]() |

Finally something I’ll actually use that free year of Apple TV+ for. I saw a snippet the other day in an apple commercial and thought it was The Secret Life of Kells, but when I looked it was only available to buy or rent. This answers that.

Thank you. Sadly, I don't live either in the United States or Canada, so unfortunately I'll have to wait until its Apple TV+ premiere.
