Sucks to lose an exclusive when you don't have very many but it never looked like something I was going to be interested in anyway.

Somebody at Wikipedia saw fit to say it was cancelled Looks like a premature conclusion to me tho.

Hopefully it's still on track but I guess we'll see. I noticed today that a PC version is/was planned; I could get that if I end up being sold on Scalebound.

Confirmed.

http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/9/1421...inum-microsoft

Quote:
After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Polygon. “We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences. For more information on our 2017 plans, please visit: http://bit.ly/2i1E5bV.”

The announcement confirms a report from Kotaku, which cited multiple sources in saying that Scalebound was “in trouble and may be cancelled.” Eurogamer also reported today, based on multiple sources, that Microsoft and Platinum have “parted ways” and that Platinum had stopped working on the project before the end of 2016.

“With continuing issues surrounding the game’s engine and overdue deadlines, the decision was made that the project could no longer continue,” said Eurogamer.

Unreal. On a platform that's already struggling to get new, compelling IP's, this news sucks. Sigh, oh well I'm sure a new Halo, Gears, and Forza are on their way.

This and Sunset Overdrive were the reason I wanted an X1, but I wasn't impressed by the gameplay they showed, I think the game was all over the place

last year Kamiya tweeted something negative about Microsoft, so I guess they weren't on the same page

I was really looking forward to this. Now the already small pool of exclusives just got smaller.

When I bought my Xbox One the two games I was most excited for were Recore and Scalebound

I already wasn't, but now I'm really not regretting selling my Xbox last summer lol

Yeah this sucks, I was looking forward to a good PG game... but I haven't seen one since Bayonetta 2 (though I thought the first game was better). The Transformers game is alright I guess, but Legend of Kora was awful and TMNT looked pretty bad too so I skipped that.

At PAX Prime here in Seattle back in September 2015 on the last day of the convention they had a big Scalebound panel, the creative director, producer, voice actor, and others involved the game showed us fans never before seen game play. At that time the game already looked amazing, almost could pass as a completed game. They unveiled some other information about it, those that showed up for it were all enthusiastic as were the developers. They gave us all a promotional shirt and then they held a special signing event and gave everyone a really nice full size promotional poster and the developers signed it. After that I think one other promotional item was made up and given out at a future convention. From a collector's stand point, that sadly is all that was made as promotional items for the game. There were rumors of a special deluxe edition of the game being developed with a dragon statue.

Hearing the news it was cancelled surprised me since even back in late 2015 the game looked incredible. What the real story is beyond the MS and Platinum Games parting ways we probably won't know. I somehow suspect Sony will rush to pick this up as an exclusive title, far too much work was done already for it to be shelved forever.

Doesn't MS own the IP? I was under that impression but maybe I'm wrong.

Not sure if they own it but they did bankroll it so I imagine there would be legal ramifications that somebody would need to overcome to finish the game.

No maybe you are right I just thought perhaps Sony would snatch it up, IF that is even possible. It may require Sony to pay Microsoft x amount, who knows. Just does suck that this game won't be an XBOX One title, I was thinking with the delays they would have had as a Scorpio launch title but now that's not happening.

Hmmm, maybe it could turn out to be like Rime where its re introduced a few months down the road as a multi platform game?

Official statement from Platinum:
Quote:
“We’re sorry to say that on January 9, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound. We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.

Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR:Automata in March, and including products like GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link and LOST ORDER in the future.

We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support!
