Default Will the new stargate movies be released on Blu-ray?

The new stargate movies, which have a straight to DVD release and are owned by MGM ( a bluray backer), will they be released on bluray also? If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Movies or the TV series? The original Stargate theatrical has already been released on Blu-ray, I pray that some day they release the original Stargate TV series on Blu-ray. I've been holding off on the buying the seasons for this reason. Maybe it's an empty hope.

There are actually two new movies with a summer straight to DVD release that continues off of SG1. They are the higher budget conclusions to the TV show, but no news about bluray. I am hopeful they will be released on my precious bluray.

I was just going to make a thread on this myself, but I searched first (newbies take note! lol)

Anyway it seems MGM has announced a release date for Ark of Truth on DVD only.. which is very very sad! All the recent TV episodes were shot with HD in mind so I'm not sure why they wouldn't day-and-date it with Blu-ray?

I'm a huge fan of the original movie, but I never watched the TV series or these other movies you're referring to. Are they good?

Well they have to change some things to make it work in the time constraints of TV and not be boring - for example, most people speak either English or the one particular alien language, all the Stargates use the same coordinate system, etc...

Other than needing a greater suspension of disbelief, they are quite good, I enjoyed all 10 seasons of SG-1 and the 3 1/2 seasons of Atlantis so far...

I too am a big fan of the original movie but IMHO the show itself sucks. It feels really dumbed down, again IMO. If they were going to make a movie sequel with James Spader and Kurt Russell I'd be interested. Anything to do with SG-1 and I'll take a pass.

That's exactly why I never really watched the TV show... it seemed like a watered down/cheaper version of the original.

I'm conflicted.
I want to buy Ark of Truth and Continuum to support MGM for continuing SG-1 in this manner.
But I don't want to double dip to Blu.. I'd really rather just have it on Blu NOW.

I love SG1 series and starting to like Atlantis more as I watch it.

IMO, SG1 rank right up there with Babylon 5 and Next Generation.

Someone mentioned Ark of Truth is out? When did it come out? Was it ever shown on Sci-fi?

Ark is not out yet. I think they are also release a MMORPG game based on SG-1 around the same time, might be on PS3.

The first one is a Conclusion to season 9 & 10 story arc. The movie will also have a recap for anyone who didn't watch those two seasons.

The Second movie will be a stand alone story.

If these movies sell very well, it's been said that they will continue the series on two movies a year.

Great shows, I got all of them on dvd & the original movie on Blu . Yes the first 1-3 seasons of SG-1 are not the best, SG: Atlantis so far, has been great out of the gate
I soo hope this year they release one of the shows, both, or the the movies coming up on Blu.

The shows are different from the movie, but I like them both. Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) is very comical. Both are fun to watch

TV shows are cheaper than big budget movies. IMO I like the SG-1 more than the movie, because they expanded the Stargate Universe so much. Michael Shanks plays a great Dr. Daniel Jackson, he played him pretty much like James Spader did in the movie for the first couple of season, but he's character has change a lot during the series he may seem like a new character now.

Agree, but I'll picked them up on DVD to show my support for the show, unless they are coming to Blu-ray close to the DVD Release dates.
