Thumbs down Bourne Ultimatum: Another Reason Not To Buy HD.

Well, lets get this out in the open. I AM PRO-SOLO BLU-RAY. I support bluray 100%, however, since I have the means, as many of us here do, I scrambled the funds together and recently purchased myself a Toshiba HD-A30 unit at Best Buy, for $249.99 and a few HD-DVD's for reference and enjoyment that cannot be found on Bluray, Bourne and Transformers, the mommy and a few others. I will not get into specifics about my equipment but I am using a Sony Wega Bravia SXRD KDS-R60XBR2 1080p 60" LCD Projection television with matching Sony stand and a direct connection from my HD-DVD unit to my TV using HDMI for video and Optical Out to my Logitech Z-5500 THX Certified Audio system, which I might add all be it, is not a complete FULL stereo surround system with huge floor standing speakers, it is true DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 system that has THX certification for best audio quality and it really is kick ass, and blows anything out of home theater in a box deal and far beyond that in my opinion, to the fact that I own three of the Z5500 systems. Back to my story, the quality is good, but lacks the true clarity of Bluray. My biggest flop and ***** and moan of the month is, for all these HD-DVD guys, with all this clarity, why does the movie production company seem to feel that a free floating hand held camera is the best way to present their new HD content. I am getting motion sickness watching the movie bounce up and down and all over the dam place, back and forth and back and forth and circles. This crap is nuts. The audio is great the picture quality is clear when its not shooting all over the place, but is this what the HD people are holding out for, fuzz, average picture quality, and shacky camera scenes? I know this is a rant and rave but the bigest pet peve is if anyone is buying all this equipment on either format why are the directors destroying the movies. Feel free to post comments and traitor jokes but I am giving these systems a fair evaluation in my opinion, so that we can all learn and benefit in our later purchases. Happy HD-ing. Hemi.

It's Too bad that the HD-DVD players are actually great machines....they could have been put to better use. I mean, they're great upconverters, they have the Ethernet jack, that was smart....But the Movie Studio support sucks. And the Actual Blu-Ray Disk itself is much better.

But don't get discouraged if people start saying stuff abnout buying a HD-DVD player, Personally, i support High Definition Media Period. I may only Have a Blu-Ray Player, and a PS3 which i use for blu-rays, but I mean, HD is the Greatest thing Since Me

Well 1st your tv is NOT an LCD, it is SXRD, better then LCD & a lot better then a LCD RP.

Ok for movies- IT IS NOT OUR MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is the Directors & Producers movie.

"shacky camera" is a filming style call 'emergence' making you 'part', felling like being there. There is the opposite side, the StarTrek effect, more like watching a play. I prefer emergence movies much more & you will see more & more as years go by.

Huh? I feel like the camera work fits the book. I don't know about the HD version since I only saw it in the theaters, but the style does fit what ludlum writes.

the way the movie was filmed isn't the fault of the format the disc is on.

I have it, and watched it on my 50" kds50a2020 and thought it looked great.

yeah i don't really understand why shaky cam is hd dvd's fault , lots of movies use it unless you thought the player was shaking the disc around and disrupting the image

it was a good transfer actually, one of the better HDDVDs. the city pan shots were cyrstal clear.

you could argue the same as regards film grain.

I have it and it's a good transfer........It has that look that a lot of action movies now have......a sort of gritty, grainy look.......I have Casino Royale on Blu and it has that same look and it looks real good too..............My TV only goes to 1080i though.

It (shacky camera) was excesive in this film, IMHO, if this is the new wave, I think I'll pass. Made me sick watching it.

Dind't they do that in Saving Private Ryan? I thought it looked cool in that movie.
I saw bourne in theater but it was different on a giant screen I guess, trust me I get motion sickness easily too. I can never play Doom.

Bourne 3 was an excellent movie with a great transfer (haven’t read one review, besides yours, that stated otherwise).

Blaming HD-DVD for the filming style of a particular movies is a fair evaluation?

and then half your post is about your equipment, amazing computer speakers, even what TV stand you are using….

If you want to pick on HD-DVD, at least be honest and use real issues.

This has nothing to do with HD-DVD so why evern bring it up.

As far as the movie itself, the shaky cam was horrible.
