Six perspectives to explore

Posted by FDG Entertainment on Wednesday, June 1. 2016 Time for a new update on our development progress! Last time we showed you concept art from the caves, now we already have playtesters exploring it in the game.

Snake going vertical! What's up there?

It's thrilling to see people enjoying the various transformation forms. There's a lot of variety on how to play the game depending which character is active. It's like playing the game from six perspectives, with each form offering awesome possibilities. Plus imagine what happens when you switch them on the fly that's so many ways to beat the game and discover secrets!

Lion-Man is strong and fast - is he the right choice to pass the volcano ?

The Frog is one of our favorite characters as his tongue is magical! You'll be surprised what he can do with it! But for now we just need him for a lengthy and dangerous underwater section. No need for additional oxygen!

Frog-Man is a great swimmer, he can overcome lengthy underwater passages without oxygen.

We still have new ideas coming everyday and it seems we need 10 Monster Boy games to realize all that...

The sky is the limit! Dragon-Man is the last playable form. This image is from the intro.

Lastly we'd like to thank everybody who sent us encouraging feedback by email or in the blog! It's pushing us to keep working hard and we love you for that! Please stay tuned ^_^

Change the thread title, it says "Wonder Boy" instead of "Monster Boy"

Anybody else pick Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap? It's pretty fun. I never played the Sega games so this is a new experience for me. I'm sticking with the new artwork, music, sfx for now but I'm going to play again when I'm done and use the retro.

Not the same game. That's Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. This thread is about Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, is the prequel to the game on this thread, which is its sequel. The Dragon's Trap is an updated version of the classic from the Sega system:

Can't wait to get home and play my copy today. Everything I've seen on my Twitter feed (which admittedly is a bit retro biased) has been great news so far.

UPS screwed up again. First it was Pokémon, not getting it until the 19th and now this game. It says delivery for tomorrow, let’s just hope this true.

Best Buy smashed my case. Didn't feel like driving to one or waiting on a refund so I bought some replacements from the Nintendo store along with some DS game cases (I was surprised to see them back in stock).

Really liking it so far. Music is superb in that 16bit/32 bit way. Easy to tap your feet and smile the entire time.

One negative (and this is surprising considering there was already a hefty day 1 patch) is that whenever you switch equipment in the menu screen it takes 2-3 seconds for the character model in the menu to reflect the visual change. With how much you take a certain piece on and off at the start this gets a bit annoying.

Out of curiosity, what made everyone get this on Switch vs another platform? Anyone buy multiple? Sometimes I’m I decisive when it comes to multi-platform games, I still haven’t chosen. I’m almost finished w/ Phantasy Star and Monster Boy is my next game.

I got it on Switch simply because it's where I tend to get games like this. No other reason.

Finished this up over the weekend. In the end I have a very strong love and hate opinion about it. Regular enemies do waaaaaaay too much damage, even with upgraded gear. Also some things you have to do aren’t obvious. Not that I need my hand held but a good example is towards the end of the game. Not once to that point do you use the frog tongue to weaken an enemy. Yet to advance that’s exactly what you need to do. Prior to that the same kind of enemy is dispatched by environmental lasers.

On the plus side the music is great and the art is exceptional. Glad I saw it through but I almost gave up at the volcano.
