The kid seemed to be taking pretty well, considering. I would have torn somebody at the store a new one though.

Yeah it sucks that stuff like this happens...

It's getting to the point where you really can't trust anyone anymore, you have to constantly look out for yourself (ie checking boxes of brand new items before you leave the store!)

Worst part is that if you don't have witnesses, stores will say you took it and are trying to rip them off...

That's probably why the first thing the family did was call the news station... get the public on your side hehe. The store would take the loss just to make the story go away.

If I'm not mistaken the serial number of the PS3 is also printed on the box, is it not? So wouldn't it be quite traceable if one of the employees took it?

I would have been crushed! I probably would have been cussing at my parents for playing such a mean joke on me (his parents probably aren't as cruel as mine though)

First, I'd ask if Candid Camera was somewhere around trying to film my reactions. Second, I'd probably yell at the person who bought it for me. And third, I'd ask for the receipt, because it would be going right back to the retailer they bought it from.

Good point. They can easily track it down if they wanted to. Unless he only want to use it as a BD player and not having it hooked up to the net at all.
