Easy pass with no 3D.

I may import 3D version if it gets cheap enough. Some scenes does look to benefit from 3D from the trailers that I've seen.

Amazon UK has the 3D version available for preorder, and in the past, Universal has been region-free.

yes, that's what I'm planning to do. I imported few 3D titles in the past (Disney) that didn't get US release.

I would like to support the US release to show that there is still demand for 3D, but it is hard to do when they don't release it at all

But I will probably wait until what Chinese will release since this is essentially Chinese movie (it might have more extras - hopefully with English subtitles) and I wanted to pick up the 3D version of Mermaid movie too since that is the highest grossing movie in Chinese history and I enjoy Stephen Chow's work.

Also have to import Underworld too

I wouldn't panic yet. These are probably just placeholders. Look at the Amazon pricing. A DVD at $29.99? That's $5 more than a Blu? I don't think so. Most likely that is the 3D price and it just hasn't been noted yet.

Angry Absurd not to release in 3D

As hokey as this film is, the 3D and the art direction and overall visuals are freakin SPECTACULAR. What is the point of not authoring a 3D disc? It cost them pennies and then you consider all the work that goes into creating the 3D version (check the thousands of artists in the credit crawl). It is almost as if suits want to disrespect all the work all these artists did on the film. You would think the director would demand that there be a 3D home video.

To tell you the truth, it was the visually stunning 3D that kept me interested in the film. Saw this in IMAX 3D (the ONLY way to see 3D IMHO; I've never seen a RealDim 3D presentation that even comes close to what I can experience at home with an LG passive 3D OLED, ironically enough, using RealD's theatre 3D glasses!) and believe me, the 3D gives this film a much needed kick in the ass.

If it didn't get legs in the theatre (it didn't), any smart executive at Universal Home Entertainment would do everything they could to make as much bucks in the home video market as possible, and that certainly would include capturing the niche 3D market.

I guess it will have to be off to down under to get the 3D.

Any reason to choose the Aussie release over the UK? I have an order in with Amazon UK for under $25 including shipping, and the Aussie release looks to be at least $10 more than that. More extras or better PQ might get me to switch though.

Sure, because the Aussies didn't start a war and send troupes over here to try to kill us. (Just kidding -- Just finished watching half the episodes of Charles Kuralt's The Revolutionary War).

No, no reason at all -- I just glanced at the forum and saw it was available there. Definitely will go for the UK version, although I still think we forget and forgave the limie bastards way too easily

You can still get the German release. Unless you're planning on watching any WWII documentaries.

I enjoyed this a lot, and while I would have preferred a 4K/3D/2D combo pack option, I have no problem buying the 3D/2D separately, either. I'm not a huge 3D fan, but this one was fun in the format, so it will be fun to have, and given its box office, I'm just thankful that it's being made available in 3D somewhere. Bit of a shame to end up with duplicate 2D discs, but what can you do.

Hopefully the UK release is region-free. Recent Universal released are still region-free, then? Only bought Hobbit 3D Extended from UK for 3D, so would feel better if something more recent is continuing the trend. (^_^)

Star Trek is Paramount, but yeah, can't think of any Universal titles that have been locked off the top of my head.

Funny to see Matt Damon and Andy Lau together given that they both played the same part in The Departed/Infernal Affairs respectively.
