Default Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Acquires Monk

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, the fastest growing network in the Crown Media Family Networks portfolio, announces the acquisition of the off-network comedy series Monk from NBCUniversal. The series will begin to air as part of the network's programming lineup beginning Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9am EST/PST, with a full day marathon and will then air weekdays from 1-3pm EST/PST beginning Monday, March 13. Monk stars EMMY(R) winner Tony Shalhoub as the obsessive-compulsive homicide detective Adrian Monk. The network's programming lineup features a unique mix of new, original movies, presentations from the acclaimed Hallmark Hall of Fame library, and such time-honored acquired series as Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, Columbo, Hart to Hart and Diagnosis Murder. In Monk Tony Shalhoub stars as the title character Adrian Monk, a brilliant but unconventional detective. Monk had a promising career with the San Francisco Police Department until Monk developed a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder as a result of his wife's unsolved murder. With assistance from a nurse, Monk is able to leave his house which allows him to work as a private detective and a consultant with the Police Department.

Man, I really liked the first few seasons of Monk. Wasn't happy when they replaced Bitty Schram, though. That kind of disrupted the cast's chemistry for me.

I bought the whole series on DVD a couple months ago. Still great as ever. Psych still elicits regular laughs from me for the ridiculous stuff Shawn and Gus get into, but Monk gets subtle laughs from me cause of what Monk does in regard to his OCD. The warhead scene is still one of my favorites.

"Stop me, for the love of God."

If they could give Columbo a revival some years later, Monk could benefit.

Heck, make it a miniseries event where Monk shows he still got it after the events of what happened in the series finale.

Bitty Schram guest starred on an episode of Ghost Whisperer. It was the episode This Joint's Haunted, episode 12 in season 4, playing a character named Jody.

She also guest starred on an episode of Roswell. It was the episode Secrets And Lies, episode 4 in season 3, playing a character named Bunny.

I like Bitty Schram and I'm sure Monk blew without her.

Traylor Howard did the best she could and I still liked the show. And then having Doctor Kroger's actor pass and have to be replaced was a necessary move but handled well by the new doctor and actor.

Having Bitty Schram return in a later episode was still a fun return to form.

I like the post-Sharona seasons better, myself.

Anyway, a Psych/Monk crossover would be nice, seeing as how they were all left in San Francisco.

Also, blu-rays. From Uni or Mill Creek, either one.

It is USA Network. They didn't embrace Blu-Rays until Mr Robot. They may reconsider for Monk down the line, but since Burn Notice got a bad run with its Blu-Rays for the first season or two and stopped, pretty much any show outside of Mr Robot (currently) will be DVD only.

And I would love to see the insanity that unfolds when Shawn's demeanor translates into Monk's line of sight. Gus would probably give Shawn a pass for what he does when they see what Monk does on a regular basis.

God, those crossover commercials they did for their run of shows for stuff like Monk/Psych, Suits and Covert Affairs, Fairly Legal with (I think) Royal Pains...those were such fun.

Yeah, but it's all owned by Universal, and their recent run of stuff like Miami Vice and Quantum Leap has been pretty great on Blu, even if it is from Milk Creek.

And their self-released stuff like Warehouse 13 and Eureka (overseas) was also worth the money.

This is news? It's a TV series that ended quite a number of years ago. I thought that this topic was discussing a reboot of the series but I don't consider a cable station acquiring an old TV series for repeat broadcast to be all that news-worthy.

It's a bit significant cause USA Network doesn't air it. It's one of their principal shows, and the first to really kick off the character drama craze on USA Network.

I know USA likes to move on to the current flavor, but I wouldn't be opposed to them revisiting their old shows from Monk onward to keep people tuning in. The shows mostly are rewatchable because they are serialized or have no central plot required to follow along (and if they do, they recap prior to the episode airing anyway).

Monk's affordable now for its whole series on DVD, but Psych has it real bad. The Complete Series pack hits over $100 at the minimum when it once hit as low as $65 brand new (and this was not long after the box set released). But I really wanted to see Monk again, so I ended up buying the whole series on DVD on eBay for $60 and change. I paid around the same for White Collar and Burn Notice, too.

Imagine if SyFy decided to re-broadcast Battlestar Galactica or Farscape or if TNT did Babylon 5...

Is there a reason why Bitty left Monk after 9-10 eps of S3 and when did she return for 1 ep?

Nobody really knows for sure. USA stated it was merely a creative decision, while other sources claimed they fired her to make an example of supporting actors who "aren't essential" to a show attempting to seek raises during contract renewals.

Yeah, there's a story out there that everyone in the main cast (minus Tony Shalhoub, of course) sat out the episode in season 3, where Monk is on a game show, over money, and she got the axe.

She returned in the last half of season 8 (the final season) for the guest appearance. Episode 10 of the season, IIRC.
