Default External Blu Ray Drive For Mac?

I'm just wondering, will there ever be an external Blu Ray drive that will work on a Mac, I know I've heard that Apple is working on putting Blu Ray drives on the future Mac Pros. I love my Mac, and would love to see a Blu Ray drive one day hooked up to it.

You can put the FastMac drive (or pretty much any other drive) in an external encosure and use it on your Mac. Pretty easy to do. There's just no Mac playback software at the moment -- so it's only useful for data, unless your system meets the PowerDVD reauirements under BootCamp and Windows XP/Vista.

I've got the fastmac blu-ray burner mounted in an external firewire case. I posted a pic of it somewhere on here, if your interested I can repost it here.

Like JadedRaverLA said, at the moment it is only good for data, but I am hoping to swap it between my mac and dell when I need to burn.

Rumor has it that Panasonic, who provides the DVD drives for mac, is making an ultra thin BD drive.. that should fit inside a laptop. I do not see why this can not be put in a mac.
In fact, I think Apple should do this as soon as they can. They should put it in the mac mini, the macbook, the macbook pro, the imac, and a larger more capable drive in the tower.
Also, anyone know if the latest BD-burners support 2+ layers?

there are already slot loading blu-ray drives that can fit in apple laptops, imacs, and mac minis. Apple is very particular though and will not include a blu-ray drive just because they can. They need to have Leopard ready to play and burn blu-rays before they will include it, even as an option, IMO.

I have a first gen blu-ray burner, and believe it supports dual layer, but not sure. Either way, dual layer discs are not cost effective yet and I got the drive as a gift, so im not complaining

Who f-ing cares? So I used the old name. Guess you had no idea what I was talking about. How'd you even figure out I meant MacBook given the disparity.

There were rumors flying all over the place in August that the new titanium iMacs were going to include a Blu-ray drive. Of course, we all know how dangerous rumors can be... just look what happened to ThinkSecret (R.I.P.).

Quite honestly, I think the other posters in this thread have it right: Apple is just waiting on better software compatibility before making it a built-in option. Considering the marriage between Macs and video editing, and Blu's superiority in storage/quality, it's only a matter of time.

Make no mistake, tho... Apple is not HD-DVD friendly. Why? Simple.

Apple --> Steve Jobs --> Pixar --> Disney --> Blu-ray.

rumor has it appleinsider got $$$bank$$$ from the settlement, so they might not be to dangerous afterall :-D

I am not worried that eventually they will incorporate blu-ray, but I'm not as confident as you that they are unfriendly towards hd-dvd. they have been pretty mum about the whole thing (from what i've read, and ive searched!) and given their position in the media market, I can't see why at the moment they would at least be considering neutrality. (blu ray burner, hd-dvd combo)

I, among others, would LOVE to see apple release blu-ray (exclusively) products and soon, but im losing my confidence.....I've been a die hard mac user for 7+ years, and vowed to never go back....

last week I bought a dell with HDMI graphics card, vista, and blu-ray drive.

WAKE UP APPLE!!!!!
