I am looking for a relatively inexpensive pc that will have the ability to author 1080p home blu-ray movies in the future. Old pc died so purchase must be made this month.
What are the System Requirements for 1080p BD Authoring? 1080p H.264 recommended requirements? BD-J recommended requirements? The nVidia recommended requirements, for playback only, seem awful high. http://download.nvidia.com/downloads...ing_a_HDPC.pdf Thanks, CC |

First, there are NO cameras I am aware of under $50K that do 1080x1920 progressive. There are a number of cameras like my Sony HDR-HC1 that do an excellent job on 1080x1440 interlaced ("HDV"). The HDR-HC3 replacement for the HC1 and some others are about $1300.
If by "author", you just mean transfer camera footage to Blu-Ray with little or no editing, the Cyberlink-BD-Solution bundled with the $750 Sony BWU-100A burner would be just adequate, but lacks menus for now. Their requirements are high: http://www.cyberlink.com/english/sup...equirement.jsp If you want to do significant editing with Vegas or PremierePro....you will find that even with the most powerful dual core machines, editing 1080x1440 HDV directly in the mpg format is very balky. I use the Cineform Aspect HD plugin for PremierePro that takes an hour of mpg2 (13GB) and makes an excellent intermediate (38GB) that makes my dual core, hyperthreaded machine sing. http://www.cineform.com/products/Asp...s_Requirements If you add all that up, there is nothing inexpensive about any of it.....but the result is stunning!
