Just been spinning through the Spanish release of Dawn of the Dead. Wanted to create a thread so I could let people know that it is a pressed disc and not a BD-R. It's the 119 min Argento cut with full Goblin soundtrack. There's English 5.1 and English mono lossless tracks and subtitles are optional. PQ is solid. Be warned though, unfortunately the mono track goes out of sync on chapter 4 (whereas the 5.1 is unaffected). That 5.1 track is a little bit echo-ey but otherwise a good surround remix of the original mono sound. I would recommend this release to anyone after the Argento version of the film, who doesn't mind listening to a 5.1 option and also doesn't fancy paying the high price of the fairly recent Italian set. Properly watched the Spanish Zombi, instead of just "spinning" through the disc.
Watched it with the lossless English 5.1 sound option and I regret describing it as a "little bit echo-ey." The amount of echo and reverberation on foley effects (such as footsteps) is actually pretty damn shocking. It also went a bit out of sync for a couple of minutes. It was not good. Will re-watch the blu-ray with the original lossless English mono track to see how that fares. As I mentioned in my original post, I noticed that it goes (badly) out of sync on chapter 4 but that is probably the lesser of two evils. Will report back on how bad the English mono, sync issues are on the Spanish Blu-ray of Zombi. Edit: watched in mono and is quite badly out of sync for around 25 mins of the 2 hr running time. Therefore due to the audio problems with the two English tracks, I have decided that I would find it difficult to recommend this blu-ray release. ![]() Last edited by SymbioticFunction; 05-19-2017 at 01:27 AM. |

Mierda. I bought it on your initial recommendation and chucked in a few other Spanish boots while I was at it, the package arrived today in fact. Oh well. That'll teach me for not checking the thread again the next day!

Halloween 1 & 2 and The Warriors. I thought I'd chance my arm that the latter is the theatrical cut (it isn't but what the hell, at least the cover art rocks) and I'm missing Halloween having sold the UK remastered steelbook thinking I could get the standalone disc a bit later for buttons, only for it to get really expensive so I stopped looking. I saw the two Halloweens and thought right, I'll have a crack at them and I'm very pleasantly surprised by both.
Halloween has the new transfer with 7.1 and it's got the proper original mono audio that's apparently only available on the version included in the big-ass Shout boxset in the US. Extras are a mishmash of all the releases, including the old Halloween Unmasked documentary, the later 'A Cut above the rest' docco, a 90-minute TV special (Inside Story, I think?) dubbed into Spanish, the extended TV scenes and the usual trailers and tv spots. Halloween II is even betterer because it's like a megamix of the Universal and Shout editions, containing the video and audio from the re-released Uni disc (lossless DTS-HD 5.1 and 2.0 DTS mono) along with Terror in the Aisles in HD, but it also includes the Horror's Hallowed Grounds bit from the Shout along with the main documentary from their edition. I got them in an offer too, they're running a 4 for 30 Eur promotion so they only cost £7.50 each all told. |

I've been skipping back and forth thru Zombi and the sync on the 2.0 track doesn't seem to be that bad. The transfer appears to be the same one used for most other pre-4K Argento versions, it's got that weird 'liney' look to the grain and is slightly windowboxed just like the French BD I used to have (before it rotted, zombie-like, and stopped working): http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a...=91555&i=4&l=0
