Trailer was pure cheese, got a bad feeling this'll be a misfire.

Films like these were once parodied in other comedy movies. Now they're making and playing them dead straight. I'm not a cold hearted cynic, but come on!

The book sold millions of copies. People are going to take their kids to this like they did Hidden Figures.

I think it looks extremely cheesy and Lifetime-y. Nothing will get me to watch this fluff piece.

Saw it last Saturday and enjoyed it a lot. All kids should see it. The only part that made me get teary eyed was

I'm glad it's such a big hit. Well deserved. Very nice film.

8/10 (B+)

My 9 year old read the book at school and has asked a few times to go see it, so it's on our matinee list of flix to see this holiday season.

4.5/5 for sure, maybe a 5/5 just because most YA movies based on popular books are utter garbage.

Miranda's big scene, Via's many big scenes and dialog like

[Show spoiler]

hits like a ton of bricks.

It probably is a little too after-school special, but if it is - its also a very high quality one.

Great film. It's very much manipulative but Stephen Chboski handles the material in a way that doesn't feel heavy-handed. Performances are generally great (Wilson is the weak link), particularly Tremblay. Also, were Julia Roberts to somehow score an Oscar nom for this, I would not complain.

He did a wonderful job of that with The Perks of Being a Wallflower too.

Why? It's not likely to get nominated for anything and I can't imagine they are even trying for that. I wouldn't complain if it were nominated though.

Actually they are now pushing it for awards. But it is because of the critic's and audience response, and wasn't originally planned for

Enjoy!!

Its a nice flix. I wouldnt go watch by myself but the kids wanted to watch since the older one read the book at school. Definately a feel good weeper type film but kids enjoyed.
