Angry Why do Blu-ray movies show the best parts of the movie in the menu?

Because showing scenes of talking isn't a good thing when you boot up the menu for Fantastic 4.

I prefer silent still image menus.

I own a pretty decent amount of movies and don't recall a menu spoiling the ending of a movie for me.

The original DVD menu of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon showed a clip of
[Show spoiler]Zhang Ziyi jumping off the bridge at the end
, which would have INFURIATED me had I not already seen the film in theaters, I actually asked my brother and his wife to keep their eyes shut during the menus when I showed them the movie, so as not to give away the ending.

I don't think I've seen a menu that ruined a major plot point, but I tend to just hit play immediately and not really watch the menu anyway.

The menu that always sticks out for me is The Natural. It has the best main scenes in the menu. A couple examples are when Roy Hobbs
[Show spoiler]shatters the clock
and the finale when
[Show spoiler]all the sparks are raining down over the field and players to win the game
. It was very annoying to load up when I was watching it with someone who hadn't seen the movie before.

The Wolverine shows part of the fight with
[Show spoiler]Shingen
if I remember correctly, which might be a spoiler.

I usually try to avoid what's happening in the menu before I watch a movie. Not that I really think it will spoil anything but I still don't wanna see clips from the movie right before I'm about to watch it.

It's a pet peeve of mine. The BD menu for Gravity for instance plays the film's most spectacular scene as soon as it starts, which lessens the impact when it actually happens in the film.

I agree 100%. This really irks me. Did they ever consider that maybe I'm putting the disc in to show a friend a film they haven't seen yet and I don't want them to see spoilers? It's one thing to have a fancy animated menu. That's fine. It's another to ruin the movie with the scenes they sometimes show.

I've seen plenty of DVD and blu-ray menus that do this.

Why do trailers always show the entire story of the movie?

I remeber in the dvd days a work bud of mine had never seen From Dusk Till Dawn. The menu on the SE dvd gave away the twist (trailers probably did too, but when I first saw it I had no idea what the movie was except starring Clooney and it blew me away). The old dvd had a static menu so I lent him that just before selling it, so he could go in as blind as I was and hopefully have the same experience. Too many menus give away too much on all digital formats.

I noticed all the Banshee blu-rays are full of spoilers in the menu when I re-watched the series recently.

Even worse than menus, how about Criterion giving away the main surprise in its stupid artwork for
[Show spoiler]The Brood

The Universal menus are pretty good for that.

Even worse was the opening credits for I believe Ghost Protocol (or maybe Rogue Nation) which have all the major set pieces in the opening. Who really thought that was a good idea?

Marketing 101. Same reason trailers consist of "money shot" montages - producers want to sell the film and they believe the best way to do so is to show just the money shots. Trailers for comedies ALWAYS show the best jokes. Same with menus. Although menus these days are more static than moving images.

It's not as bad as Blu-ray cover art that reveals spoilers.

I'm looking at you, Criterion Blu-ray of
[Show spoiler]The Brood.
I'm looking at you.
