Interesting!
I remember Torn Curtain being one of the better encoded films in the Uni set, and Final Cut don't appear to be adding any extras onto this so it appears quite redundant. There was some discussion back when Arrow teased (what turned out to be only) Psycho 2 re: whether Universal would licence out their Hitchcock titles; I thought it was a possibility, but I'm surprised to see that it's Final Cut who have got the first stab at it. If all of them were on offer, I hope that the likes of Vertigo and Shadow of a Doubt went to a label that will go the extra mile. |

O, I wouldn't say it was awful. Uneven certainly, and very oddly cast, with a hot-off-her-Oscar Julie Andrews and Paul Newman both looking thoroughly ill-at-ease with both the material and each other. But there are compensations, like Lila Kedrova's desperate-to-emigrate old countess, and the gruesomely comic gas-oven murder of the German spy. Now, Topaz is indeed absolutely awful....

I think Torn Curtain is one of Hitchcock's most under-rated movies, i found it consistently interesting, it has some great set pieces & is very suspenseful at times. I don't get the hate for it unlike Topaz which i agree is pretty dire.
