‘Cowboy Bebop’ Live Action TV Series in the Works

“Cowboy Bebop,” a critically and commercially successful 1998 Japanese anime series, is set to be adapted into a live action television series by Tomorrow Studios, a partnership between ITV Studios and Marty Adelstein.

The live action version will be executive produced by Sunset Inc. — the studio responsible for the original animated iteration — as well as Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Matthew Weinberg. Midnight Radio consists of Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg. Chris Yost will write the adaptation.

“Cowboy Bebop,” which takes place in 2071 in the original version, follows Spike Spiegel and his gang of bounty hunters, also known as cowboys, as they cavort around the galaxy attempting to capture bad guys and survive some of the most intense dangers the galaxy has to offer. The anime series has been successful in Western markets, and is credited with introducing a new wave of Western viewers to anime. It’s also widely cited as one of the best anime series of all time.

“Cowboy Bebop” already received the feature film treatment in 2001 with “Cowboy Bebop: The Movie,” which is set amidst the latter third of the 26-episode anime series and received mostly positive reviews from critics. In the same year, the original series became the first anime series to be broadcast on Adult Swim in the United States.

I think it'd be better as a multi-episode TV series rather than a feature film.

Considering the budgets and availability of CG, this can be pulled off.

Yeah I do think this holds some pretty serious potential, if the right premium network gets hold of it and gives it the budget it needs/deserves. As long as they're not just gonna rehash the same stories from the anime, I'm down.

This could go either way, but in light of the live-action GITS and Altered Carbon I am sceptical!

Just use the original theme music, ship designs, and a non-CG Corgi. That’s half the battle IMO.

Another live action Anime can Netflix do it right this time and not be as crappy as Deathnote Live action movie. Heck next they should do live action on the anime Elfen Life and hire director Takashi Miike lol joking I know it will never happen but if their ever was a live action movie done on Elfen Life Takashi is the right guy for it.

no thx, they keep takin on these epic sci fi concepts that require big budgets, but are clearly money-deprived on screen. it's embarrassing and they should stop.

I would have liked to have seen that. Outside of an unknown i can't anyone playing him right now.

Yes. He repeatedly tried to make it happen as a big budget film but couldn’t.

When has live action anime worked well? I can't think of one time. My avatar comes close but that was based off a short Japanese novel if I'm not mistaken.

The GITS movie wasn't completely awful. Just ScarJo was miscast but the rest was ok at least
