What on earth is that review? It's dated 2012 yet says 35th anniversary. Did he just mess up the title of his article? Is it confirmed this is the same disc as the last one? Your first line suggests it isn't, but this review is clearly of the last version.

That review is off the 2012 release, not some sort of sneak preview of the new release. I disagree about the positive comments about the steelbook art - it looks like E.T. released a big red radioactive fart.

Wonder if this release include the Henry Thomas screen test that was included on the old laserdisc box set?

Yeah, there is a LOT of cool content from the laserdisc. I've also recently seen several TV specials from the time, one of which had some great behind the scenes footage that I haven't seen anywhere else. This film could really justify a giant definitive box set release.
