Announced at the Anime Boston 2017 convention on April 02, 2017, the Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution anime film trilogy will be released not only in theaters in Japan but also at select venues worldwide, and the U.S. distribution of the film will be handled by Funimation.
The first film in the trilogy will be released in the Fall season of 2017 in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries. The second and third films will follow in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
The trilogy will again feature the two protagonists of the first TV anime series, Renton Thurston and Eureka, but will also introduce the "First Summer of Love" incident that occurred 10 years before the TV anime story and was never directly illustrated in it. The site says that it will not be a remake or a remix, and all dialogues will be reconstructed. With newly filmed and produced footage, the trilogy will show a totally new ending "nobody has ever known."
All three main staff members of the TV series, Tomoki Kyoda (general director), Dai Sato (screenplay writer), and Kenichi Yosida (character designer) are set to return. It is, however, still not confirmed if the original voice cast members will reprise their roles (Takeshi Aono, who voiced Renton's grandfather Axel, past away in 2012).
