Warner Bros Harry Potter Films in 3D

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I was watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone last night (again!) and all I was thinking about was how awesome it would look in 3D! I read that back in 2010, Warner Bros. had decided to convert all HP films in 3D, but nothing has been heard since. Maybe they are waiting for an anniversary to release the films in Blu-ray 3D, but I hope they'll do it, because if the conversion is done right (they should take advise from James Cameron, since he was in charge of the best 3D post-converted movie of all time, Titanic), the movies will look spectacular.
Here are some examples from the first HP film of how the franchise would benefit from the 3D effect:

As much as I'd love to see the first six movies in 3D, I don't think it's likely. A couple of possible reasons:

- They wouldn't need to just convert one movie. They'd have to convert the first six movies to bridge the gap to Movies 7 and 8 and I don't see they spending the time and money to do that. Especially as not all of the movies lend themselves perfectly to 3D.
- The movies are being released in 4K right now, which is a far less costly and more time-effective way of converting the films and releasing the movies in a new format.
- They most likely want to focus on Fantastic Beasts while its' still in development.
- With home theatre 3D maybe not on the way out, but slowing down, I don't see them converting another six "older" movies. Or even one to be honest.

But yeah, all that being said, I agree I'd love to see the entire series in 3D! Columbus has said in the past that he'd like to especially see the Quidditch match in 3D. In terms of great 3D shots, I also think of when the Golden Snitch flies towards the camera.

This is propably the main reason why they wouldn't bother to convert them in 3D, but they could convert each film in each anniverasry
For example, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021, so they could release a 20th anniversary Blu-ray 3D edition then. Afterwards, in 2022 they could release a 20th anniversary Blu-ray 3D edition of HP and the Chamber of Secrets etc.

Well, Blu-ray 3D sales are still stronger than 4K ones, so I doubt we should fear. Other than Disney, all companies release their films in blu-ray 3D and every single blockbuster is being released in theatres in 3D.

I don't do 3D but I am sure they would sell for those that do.

Half BLood Prince would be unwatchable in 3D with that cinematography and color timing. Movie looks beautiful but that movie is not for 3D.
