China Once Upon a Time (2017) [No 3D Blu-ray]

A new Chinese 3D movie called Once Upon a Time is opening today. I don't recall seeing a mention of it here. Anyone know anything about it?

China 3D Fantasy Pic ‘Once Upon A Time’ To Hit U.S. Via Well Go USA

http://deadline.com/2017/06/once-upo...go-1202119103/

"Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Once Upon A Time, the 3D fantasy romance from China’s Alibaba Pictures that IM Global acquired to handle worldwide sales at Cannes this year. The film will get an August 11 U.S. theatrical bow this summer in the original 3D format, in Mandarin with English and Chinese subtitles. A digital and home video release will follow."

Hope I can find a theater within a hour from me that shows this

It's good to see it getting into some theaters. Though my concern is whether or not it'll also have a 3D show included, unlike with Dragon Ball Z F last year or so, which only got released in 2D for one weekend before it was gone. I did hear the 3D may not have been worth it though for Dragon Ball Z F, with milder 3D if that's true.

So far...... every showtime is in 3D , no 2D shows at all yet.

Since the month of August isn’t offering much in the way of 3D live-action films (T2 being the exception), I went and saw this today. This was actually my first time seeing a foreign film at the theater.

This is one of those Chinese movies that is totally fantasy. You have mortals and immortals. And some immortals living as mortals. And it all takes place in fantasy realms. There is a lot of eye candy here, a lavish production.

Quite a bit of humor during the early segments. More serious drama as the movie moved along. I don’t really do a whole lot of foreign films and I must admit I sometimes got frustrated having to rely on subtitles. Frustrated because at times, I felt like I wasn’t able to enjoy the visuals as much as I would have liked to. But that is the nature of foreign language films.

As for the 3D, it was fine. They really cranked it up during the exciting finish. I’m not a 100% sure, but I thought I was looking at a conversion. It was hard to tell because there was so much CGI and my eyes spent a lot of time on the subtitles.

I imagine that those who enjoy these Chinese action/fantasy films, will enjoy this one. If my review seems a bit vague, that’s because I don’t really like to engage in ‘spoiler’ talk.

Thanks for the review! I think I'll skip this one as I didn't really like the trailer and am less interested in conversions. I'll take a chance on Legend of the Naga Pearls though if it comes to any theaters nearby in 3D.

Kudos to Well Go USA for actually offering the 3D version in theaters. That's a new change for them, and I hope it becomes a trend.

Saw this in Cherry Hill NJ today. Lots of depth but little popout (which I expected to see during a cooking scene). In the credits stereoscopic recreation is credited so yes a conversion....I did enjoy it however and would probably purchase it at $20 or less.

One thing I found funny was the number of logos at the beginning. I think I counted at least 11. Some with great 3D

Will they release it on 3-D Blu-Ray, though? They haven't done a 3-D home release since Sadako 3-D, and they failed to release its sequel on 3-D Blu.
