They were still around? I thought they disappeared like 10 years ago.

When all else failed, half.com was an oasis of killer deals. Also helped me build a killer library during graduate school. RIP half.com...

They were good for books (especially ISBN searches). Others, not so much.

I went to the website maybe 2-3 times in the last five years and never thought they were relevant or useful in any way. This was a long time coming.

I was a decent seller on half, and always found outstanding deals. R.I.P. old friend.

I never once looked at half.com and it looks like I never will. I guess half.com was like FYE in that there are some killer deals if you spend a lot of time browsing. I just never got around to it. I never saw a single deal posted on any site I check that linked to half.com.

I used them for buying VHS that haven't made it to disc yet. They usually had the best price.

I used them to sell stuff that I was in no hurry to sell. It was nice that there wasn't a website fee and a Paypal fee.

When they first started, AGES ago, I bought and sold a ton of stuff on there. Originally, the max price you could charge was half the regular price (hence the name). Then they eventually lifted that restriction and it became just another place to find things for prices as high or higher than you could buy them new for, or even worse, price gouging on harder to find titles. Over time it got worse and worse, and the only deals I saw were on titles nobody wanted/everybody already had.

I would however, find deals on textbooks, though. I would go to my college bookstore, get the ISBN of the book I had to buy, then buy it for a fraction of the price on half.com. (As a bonus, I was often able to sell them back to my college bookstore at the end of the semester for more than I paid for them! LOL)

I used to buy there; however, haven't seen an advantage to shopping there in years. eBay almost always had the same or better deals.

I found a few great deals on there a couple of months ago. A long out of print title for original retail of $14.98, when third party sellers on eBay and Amazon wanted $75 or more.

They were great before Amazon Marketplace started. When in the market for movies, CDs or books, I always checked AM first, then eBay (who bought Half.com many years ago) and then Half. Half didn't have as good a selection as eBay, which usually doesn't have as good a selection as AM, but sometimes Half had the best deal, especially with books.

Hastings, MovieStop, now Half... Less competition means worse used deals.

A lot of the vendors we're nonprofits, which is good. Lots of Goodwill stores. I never had the wrong item shipped, and I bought HUNDREDS of books, Blus, CDs, and DVDs over the years from them. Shipping was $1 less than Amazon marketplace too. Accusations of price gouging are usually from a microeconomic misunderstanding on the user's part (if something doesn't sell, it's price is too high - FULL STOP).

However, I NEVER bought anything electronic (which they banned a few years ago) or with moving parts from them.

I also sold a ton of stuff through them, as their commission was fair.

I've always hated eBay. Been ripped off a few times, and my PayPal account was hacked 14 years ago through eBay, so I've never cared.

Been having pretty good luck with Craigslist lately. Good deals on Blu-ray lots come up quite a bit, especially as college kids move out of town every spring.

It was an excellent site for CD bargains. Sellers that sold at multiple sites would often price things cheaper at Half.com for some reason.

eBay seemingly bought it out to bury Half.com as a viable competitor. They put virtually no resources into changing or improving the site. It kept the same web design for nearly two decades.

I was a long time seller there. Things really slowed down in the last year or two. I still have quite an inventory of CDs, DVDs and Blu Rays to sell. Does anyone have any good recommendations for selling these items? I never tried eBay....heard too many horror stories.
