Yeah, the resemblance really impressed me. Didn't know about the movie til I saw some reviews this morning, but it's definitely something I wanna watch. Great cast and the Chappaquiddick story has always interested me ever since I saw Blow Out.

Just saw Chappaquiddick. The film is pretty much a by the numbers historical account of what happened the night that Ted Kennedy drove that car off the bridge and the damage control done by the Kennedy machine after the fact with an all out attempt to save Ted's political career. The film paints a compelling account of how the people around Kennedy rallied to work to save his reputation/political career all while Ted wrestles with what appears to be his back and forth inward battle on whether to be truthful or to give in to the desire to do whatever is necessary for his own political survival. Whether or not that inward battle of conscience actually occurred, I think we all know how it turned out. The acting is first rate, especially from Jason Clarke who clearly inhabits the character of Ted Kennedy. Having been old enough at the time this event occurred, one of the more interesting facts that I got from this film is that I completely forgot that this entire incident took place at exactly the same time that Neil Armstrong was setting foot on the moon. A solid 3.5/5 for me.

If you've seen Blow Out and/or Arbitrage, those were pretty heavily based on this incident.

I liked it. It made me hate politics and politicians even more. So much corruption. Jason Clarke was great. That neck brace act.....

What was "fun" (for lack of a better word) about this was that it was like a political thriller, but told from the perspective of the insidious shadowy organization cover-up, instead of from the perspective of someone hunting for/discovering the truth.
The scenes with all the lawyers were hilarious. Very sad that it actually happened that way, but the way they acted was very amusing to me. Pretty good film but won't go down as one of the all-time great political thrillers, despite the aforementioned interesting take on the genre. |

Emo Ted getting angry when nobody liked the neck-brace had me rolling.
Agreed with pretty much everyone here... very good movie and interestingly done. Clarke is excellent as Ted Kennedy, and Ed Helms was surprisingly almost as good. Some nice camerawork and editing too (though there was one instance where I could have sworn they showed Jim Gaffigan's character diving into the water twice, or maybe I wasn't paying attention the first time... anyone else notice this?). |

Truly engaging and riveting from start to finish. Well made and well acted.
Jason Clarke was great as Ted Kennedy along with some really good dramatic work from Helms and Gaffigan. Though Kate Mara and Bruce Dern had short appearances, they made strong impressions with their performances. Talleyrand described this as a political thriller from the perspective of the shady cover-up team and it's an accurate description. Another one of my faves of the year thus far. 5 of 5 |
