NCIS coming to Blu-ray - Blu-ray Forum

It looks like Paramount Germany will release the first five seasons of NCIS (2003-) as a box set on 18 January 2018. This release will apparently be 29 discs, and is currently an Amazon.de Exclusive, priced at just €99,99 VAT included, which means it's €84,03 (or €87,03 with shipping) to the United States.

CBS/Paramount Germany making all my TV Show Blu-ray dreams come true.

Can't help but feel a trend here with these Blu-ray releases as of late.

All 7 seasons of "The Good Wife" next please!

Well, just so long as Seasons 6-14 and beyond of NCIS are released as well.

Surely that's not too much to ask.

Given it’s Paramount almost certainly not. Have only heard of them regionally locking some of their films in North America to RA when they only have local rights e.g. Gladiator or Braveheart.

NCIS is owned by CBS hence Paramount out right so no need to lock.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I'll be storing this for playback in my Sony Blu-ray changers. They don't play Region B which means I'd have to create Region Free backups of all the discs if they were Region B locked. Not a deal breaker, but great to hear this will more than likely not be Region B locked.

I did have this pre-ordered. Cancelled my pre-order last month after getting laid off from my full-time job. Was part of a workforce reduction. I've since been hired back though, so I pulled the trigger on this again today. I'll chime back in once I receive my copy and have a chance to give it a good once over. Estimated delivery date for me is showing 31 Jan - 5 Feb. Can't wait!

So is mine. However says it won’t depart until Monday and then 2 days to get to UK. Not sure if they have delays at present with all the bad weather over there at present. Lots of pictures online of trucks blown over etc.

I haven't had time to check the specs yet. But according to a German Forum it's English DTS-HD Master 2.0 for Season 1 and Season 2 and DTS-HD Master 5.1 for Seasons 3 - 5. German DTS-HD Master 2.0 for all the seasons. I'm going to check that and Region Coding later.

I just checked one disc from each season:

- The language options I posted above are correct. ( English: 2.0 Season 1&2, 5.1 Seasons 3-5, German: 2.0 Season 1 - 5)
- Subtitles are available in German and English
- Menus are German-Only but very easy to navigate if you ever used a DVD/Blu-Ray Menu.

- Works with Region A and Region B Players (Don't have a Region C-Player to test)
- I just spot checked a few of the episodes and picture quality seemed ok, but I have to take a closer look some time later
- Yes, getting the discs out of the case is as much fun as you would expect it to be with 3 and 2 stacks right next to each other.

One more thing about the picture quality: If you've never seen the show before (like me) don't fall of your couch because of the bad picture quality of the first frame of the first episode (like I did

). It's lower than low resolution stock footage of Air Force One. After a few seconds it cut's to actuall footage of the show and all is ok. :-)

Thanks for the details. It will be 2 weeks before my copy arrives. The first thing I'll be doing is removing the discs from the retail packaging as they'll be permanently stored for playback in my Sony Blu-ray changers. :-P I own all the seasons on DVD and the HD streams available barely best the DVD's. The HD streams are very underwhelming. Considering this, I don't expect to be wow'd with the presentation on Blu-ray. If the presentation on Blu-ray provides a significant improvement over the DVD's and even a modest improvement over the HD streams I'll be more than satisfied. Projected at 120" diagonal I'm quite sure the juice will be worth the squeeze. I hold no value on streaming content. Any opportunity to own my favorite movies and TV shows in HD on Blu-ray is an opportunity too good to pass up. And here's to hoping we are treated in the near future to a "NCIS: Seasons 6-10" as well!

I'm pretty sure it's US-Masters but I'm going to check again when I get home from work this evening.

My boxset is also waiting at home for me, so I can also check this weekend. Given the multiple spoken language options and subtitles, I would expect them to be in English as broadcast and then subtitled with other languages. This is coming from CBS Paramount so likely to be a global US master.

The CSI Cyber German BDs another CBS show were released by a local German company plus being interlaced were also almost certainly the German TV HD master.

So I just watched the first two episodes and the picture quality definitly won't win any awards. If I had to descripe it with one word it would be soft. It's ok, but I had hoped for a bit more.

And yeah these are US-Masters.

My copy arrived today, and I can confirm the basics of what has been said. That the first two seasons appear to have their original 2.0 audio (in DTS-HD MA), while the third season onwards, where the episodes are available with 5.1 sound, the English audio is DTS-HD MA 5.1. All five seasons also have a German: DTS-HD MA 2.0 dubbed audio track, which appears to be the default option, I was able to test the first disc of the first season, and has very easy-to-understand German menus, and the episodes also have German and English SDH subtitles.

I also made an effort to look at one disc from each season on my PC. PowerDVD hasn't worked for me for months, so the best I can do is make BDInfo scans and use VLC to look at .m2ts files in a very rough fashion, as VLC struggles with Blu-ray. From looking at these discs, I can confirm the aformentioned audio change from the second to the third season, and the fact that English subtitles (presumably all English SDH) should be on at least the episodes. The discs that I looked at also had no 50Hz content, so I assume that holds true for all twenty-nine discs. And it does seem that all the discs are region free according to AnyDVD, but I haven't been able to test them in my player, yet.

Unfortunately, the packaging is an absolute nightmare. It is as it appears online--an oversized clear amaray case in a cardboard slipcover, which is a design CBS have used for a lot of their recent large DVD sets, but given that there are twenty-nine discs inside, they are stacked 2-4 deep, even mixing seasons. The worst part is that the discs on the bottom of each stack struggle to release from the large center spindle, something which forced me to really bend the discs to try and release them. I think they are all okay, but I'm not going to be touching most of them again until the replacement viva elite cases I ordered show up. The new "season" packs I'll make won't have jacket art, but it will make me feel a hell of a lot better about their long-term lives.

I did also take a look at the first episode,"Yankee White", and I have to say, it may be a minority opinion, but I like the picture quality it a lot, knowing what NCIS looks like. Yes, it is soft, but aside from that, it also seems to look pretty damn good. I think the DVDs and HD broadcasts probably really struggle to define the imagery properly because of the soft photography, and the Blu-ray, while it doesn't look like most Blu-rays, just seems very satisfying. I also have an inkling that the lossless DTS-HD MA 2.0 audio is quite superior to the Dolby Digital 2.0 audio on the DVDs, but I may do some comparisons at a later date to double-check.
