Press release with full info (via Pieter V):

[Show spoiler]
SEVEN ACCLAIMED FILMS FROM DIRECTOR CHRISTOPHER NOLAN TO BE RELEASED ON DECEMBER 19 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 4K RESOLUTION WITH HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR)

“Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Prestige,” “Inception,” “Interstellar,” and “Dunkirk” to be released on 4K Ultra HD for the Ultimate Home Viewing Experience; “The Dark Knight Trilogy” and Seven-Film “Christopher Nolan Collection” will also be available on 4K Ultra HD.

BURBANK, CA, November 17, 2017 – Seven acclaimed films from director Christopher Nolan will be available for the first time on 4K Ultra HD on December 19, it was announced today by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Inception,” and “Dunkirk” will be available from Warner Bros., featuring the films on 4K Ultra HD. “The Prestige” and “Interstellar” will be available on 4K Ultra HD from Disney and Paramount respectively.

4K Ultra HD includes a range of features such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wider Color Spectrum. These performance advances allow viewers to more accurately experience the filmmaker’s original vision, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before. *

“4K Ultra HD with HDR is an incredibly exciting new home video format that allows a much closer recreation of viewing the original film print,” said Christopher Nolan. “The deeper color palette comes closer to matching the analogue colors of film and we’ve restored the original theatrical mixes for this release. If you can’t rewatch these films in the theater, this is the best experience you can have in your own home.”

The individual titles from Warner Bros. will feature the films on 4K Ultra HD with the feature films in 4K with HDR, Blu-ray™ discs of the films in hi-definition, a bonus Blu-ray Disc with behind-the-scenes content and special features, and a Digital copy of the films.

“Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” and “The Dark Knight Rises” will also be available as “The Dark Knight Trilogy” on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack for $70.99 SRP**, and features the three films on 4K Ultra HD with the feature films in 4K with HDR, Blu-ray discs of the three films in hi-definition, bonus Blu-ray Discs with behind-the-scenes content and special features, and a Digital copy of the films.

The “Christopher Nolan Collection,” containing “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Prestige,” “Inception,” “Interstellar,” and the recent blockbuster “Dunkirk,” will also be available as a box set on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack for $149.99 SRP**, and features the seven films on 4K Ultra HD with the feature films in 4K with HDR, and Blu-ray discs of the seven films in hi-definition, and bonus Blu-ray Discs with behind-the-scenes content and special features.

Nolan’s awe-inspiring masterpiece “Interstellar” will be released on 4K Ultra HD in a 3-disc Combo Pack that includes the film on 4K UHD and in high definition on Blu-ray, as well as a bonus Blu-ray Disc™ with three hours of in-depth, behind-the-scenes content detailing the epic shoot, the scientific realities explored in the film, a look at creating the stunning visuals, and much more.

“The Prestige” will be releasing as a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital Copy) that includes the insightful The Director’s Notebook: The Cinematic Sleight of Hand of Christopher Nolan, a multi-part behind-the scenes look at all aspects of the creation of the film, and The Art of the Prestige interactive gallery.

SYNOPSIS

“Batman Begins”

“Batman Begins” explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight’s emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents’ murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

“The Dark Knight”

The follow-up to “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight” reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Rachel Dawes. Returning from “Batman Begins” are Oldman, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.

“The Dark Knight Rises”

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. Christian Bale stars, along with Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.

“The Prestige”

From acclaimed director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, Insomnia) and starring a powerhouse cast including Golden Globe® Nominee Hugh Jackman (Kate and Leopold), Christian Bale (Batman Begins, American Psycho), four-time Golden Globe® Nominee Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, Match Point, A Love Song for Bobby Long, Girl with a Pearl Earring) and the legendary two-time Academy Award® Winner Michael Caine (Best Supporting Actor for The Cider House Rules and Hannah and Her Sisters), “The Prestige” is the mysterious story of two magicians in Victorian-era London whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy filled with obsession, deceit and jealousy with astonishing twists and deadly consequences.

“Inception”

Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief and coveted player when it comes to extraction: the stealing of valuable secrets from deep within the mind during a subject’s dream state. His skill, though, has turned him into an international fugitive and he is now being offered a chance at redemption. One last job. One last job to give him his life back. But only if he can pull off the impossible – inception — not stealing an idea but planting one. If Cobb and his team succeed, it will be the perfect crime. However, no amount of meticulous planning can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

“Interstellar”

Matthew McConaughey stars as an ex-pilot-turned-farmer who must leave his family and a foundering Earth behind to lead an expedition traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain and John Lithgow.

“Dunkirk”

“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. The story unfolds on land, sea and air. RAF Spitfires engage the enemy in the skies above the Channel, trying to protect the defenseless men below. Meanwhile, hundreds of small boats manned by both military and civilians are mounting a desperate rescue effort, risking their lives in a race against time to save even a fraction of their army.

DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION ELEMENTS

Also on December 19, “Batman Begins,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Prestige,” “Inception,” “Interstellar”, “Dunkirk,” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” will be available to own in 4K HDR from select digital retailers. They will also be available in high definition and standard definition on favorite devices from select digital retailers including Amazon, FandangoNow, iTunes, PlayStation, Vudu, Xbox and others. Just posted this in the Dark Knight thread, but seeing as how we're moving here:

Just ordered the 4K set from Bullmoose. I was going to just get the Dark Knight movies at $25 each from Best Buy, but then I realized I also wanted Inception. So I figured for $3 more (100+3), I could get more movies!

It was only then that I realized the set even includes Dunkirk. Like dang, that's a seriously good deal.

I'm really hoping the box set comes with the individual titles in cases, rather than a big case with all the movies. I'd like to split up the set.

Edit: Here are individual prices for the movies at Best Buy:

The Prestige - not yet listed

The Dark Knight trilogy - $24.99 each 1 2 3
Dunkirk - $29.99
Interstellar - $27.99
Inception - $27.99

Same here. Wish we could see inside the box. I’ll have to put these correctly alphabetically on my shelf. Wouldn’t want Batman movies to go N for Nolan Collection on my shelf. Want to preorder but need them to be separate cases.

I don't think this will be individual cases. If shelf order is a big deal, just take the UHDs out of this set and put them in the packaging you already have for the individual Blu-rays.

It looks like the French version might be getting the treatment I'm hoping for. Here's hoping it's the same in the US.

I don’t have any big collections like this. If not individual cases what would it look like? Seems to be a pretty big box.

My mistake, apparently the Nolan Blu-ray collections had individual cases (no slipcovers though), so maybe this will too. There are unboxing videos of those BD sets on YouTube.

Well that is exciting.

Fingers crossed for slipcovers, though (probably won't happen)

If the youtube announcement is for the US release, then it seems like they are going with the international Warner cover artwork for The Prestige.

Yeah I don't love all the movies included here so individual cases would make it easier to sell those off. Although I do intend to watch all of these 4Ks at least once just to see how good they look. (And hey, maybe I'll finally come around on Prestige and maybe Rises will look good enough to make it worth sitting through for Hathaway and maybe having subtitles on Dunkirk will improve that movie for me).

Just pre-ordered from Bullmoose, where at $103, a little less than $15/4K UHD is a fricking steal.

That said, if B&N does do its annual 40% off all movies sale before Christmas, the collection would be cheaper there, *plus* you could stack your membership discount and possibly coupons too. 40% off $150 + 10% discount + 20% coupon could bring the price down to $65 before tax.

Do you have to be a member for the 40% off annual sale?

Also where do the 10% discount and 20% off coupons come from? Thanks

You don't have to be a B&N member to buy from the 40% off sale. But you do have to be a member for the 10% off membership discount and the 20% off coupon (although sometimes they do a 20% non-member coupon too).

10% discount is for (paid) members. If you sign up for B&N's emails, though, they will frequently (think every couple of weeks or so) send you a 20% off any one item coupon.

The 40% sale is usually not members only.

Also worth noting, though, that B&N generally has hideously high prices on box sets and such, so the sales and discounts probably won't bring it down as low as you'd hope.

The 10% discount is the automatic member discount. The 20% coupon would come in the mail.

Their 40% sale is 40% off msrp. Sounds good, but still hard to find deals.

Edit: Dang. Two other people answered before I could.
